Gastronomy Blog - What is Gastronomy ?

A Gastronomy blog is basically a food blog but it focuses more on the culture of food rather than just recipes and photos of meals when dining out. Recently a lot of people have become interested in what they eat and many have started reading food blogs online.

Many of these blogs contain great recipes and a lot also have some interesting photos and great content but there is also some real garbage out there. What I find more interesting is a gastronomy blog, where I can be entertained and actually enjoy reading about the subject that I am interested in - which in this case is food.

Food has started to become a bit of a trend in the last ten or fifteen years with many people writing about food and a lot more people taking an interest on what they eat.

More and more people are trying different kinds of food and are learning about other cultures through their food and they ways that food is produced prepared and eaten. There are lots of TV shows related to cooking and food and celebrity chefs have really become celebrities.

But is this movement becoming too cool. Yes and no - on one side of the story people are becoming more involved in what they eat and there is less junk food being consumed and on the other side there are a lot more food snobs out there now. But either way you look at it - food is here to stay.

The study of gastronomy is actually quite interesting in that it not only looks at food and eating but also goes into the history, politics, and sociology surrounding food. For example if you think about white bread now as being bread that is primary of a lower cost, taste and consumed by those of a lower social standing - you may be surprised that originally white bread was only consumed by Kings and Queens of Europe as it looked 'cleaner' and was better than brown bread.

Another thing that you might come across in a gastronomy blog is the study of meat and how up until the 19th century, people never ate cows (well not on the scale that we do today) they were too big and were only eaten by poor villagers. Instead other smaller animals were consumer more regularly and these were animals like deer, rabbit, goat and sheep.

So next time you are searching for something good to read - do some research online for a gastronomy blog, you may be surprised at what you find.
