Organic Baby Food: What\'s so Special About It?

While browsing in the grocery store the other day, I overheard the man from the couple next to me say to his wife as they selected jars of pureed food for their tiny daughter, "You gotta be crazy if you think I'm buying organic baby food. Waste of money, that's all it is!"

Babies, while worth every precious penny, are certainly expensive. So why would someone want to pay 75 cents on a jar of baby food instead of 45 cents, just because it says organic? It's the same stuff, right? Well, read on and decide for yourself.

There are two gigantic reasons for buying organic food/drink, both equally important to you as a person. The first reason is for the health of your baby. When you buy baby food that was grown organically, you are providing for your baby with food that hasn't been sprayed with cancer-causing pesticides, herbicides, artificial chemical fertilizers, hasn't been genetically altered, grown in sewer sludge or a radiation area. There are strict, strict rules that organic farms must comply with in order to have the organic designation. Food that is grown non-organically is grown for the quantity, not quality, and is full of all those gross and scary things mentioned above. No parent wants to start their child's life off by spooning food coated with poison or mutant bacteria into their bellies that can be responsible for illnesses (Cancer, Autism, ADHD, Parkinson's, Infertility, etc) to plague them either immediately or later on in their lives. No! We want to give our baby the very best chance and protect them from as much harm as possible as they grow up to be part the big, big world.

And speaking of the big, big world, the second reason for buying organic is crucial to the billions of people we share the earth with as well as future generations that haven't even arrived yet. It's all about organic farming. All those toxic chemicals that are sprayed onto regular, non-organic crops to make pest control easier and to create bigger, perfect-looking produce? Well, they are ruining the environment, plain and simple. Those chemicals destroy in a domino effect everything in its path, soaking into the ground, getting into the water, killing all kinds of wildlife (for example: 67 million birds a year), and the pollution, we are finding out now is messing up the earth's balance of nature, causing really scary stuff like whack-o, extreme climates, freakish storms, etc.

While that's the bad news and extremely serious for future generations, the GOOD news, is that our world was created to heal itself after some damage has been done, and it does and will if we stop beating it up long enough! Unless you live in a hole and never come out, you have heard about recycling, saving energy, using renewable resources, etc, etc. THIS IS ALL PART of us people trying to get rid of the destructive habits that are ruining everything so that the earth's balance can get back to happy. Organic farming is a huge player in this game-plan, which translates to YOU being a huge player, too. You buy organic food, more people buy organic food, more farms will make the effort to farm organically. Because it is hard to change, and most non-organic farmers out there are not these horrible, evil conspirators out to trash the environment. They would make the transition if the demand for organic food was large enough to make it profitable for them, so start demanding!

By purchasing organic baby food (and as much available organic food and products possible), you are helping to ensure that your precious little one will grow up with a pure body system; their blood, nerves and organs will be as they were naturally blessed with, not tainted with chemicals designed with death in mind. You also become a hero of the planet, knowing with a good conscience that you are doing everything possible to truly make this world a better place.

So, now that you know more about organic vs. non-organic: Is paying a bit more for organic baby food "crazy" and "a waste of money"? You decide.
