When we think of green tea, most of us would automatically assume that it is healthy. But are mass producing companies like Lipton really looking out for our health, or are they trying to make money from our naivety? If you are looking to lose weight or just trying to be more healthy in general, you should know what you are putting into your body. So is Lipton diet green tea really that healthy for us?
For a start, Lipton diet green tea comes in a choice of two flavors, citrus and mixed berry, which come in at zero calories each. This is good as Lipton ice tea is often packed full of sugar, which is neither healthy, nor going to help you lose weight.
However, neither of these teas contain the level of antioxidants that freshly brewed green tea does, in fact it has just 40% of those. If you are looking to lose weight then the freshly brewed version of this tea will be more effective that Lipton's diet tea. In terms of the antioxidant, catechine, 10 cups of Lipton diet green tea is equivalent to just one cup of freshly brewed green tea.
This means that if you were trying to lose weight you would need to drink a massive (and expensive) amount of Lipton tea. For example, to lose weight it is recommended that you drink at least 4 to 6 cups a day, which means you would have to drink at least 40 cups of Lipton diet green tea. We advise you not to do that as, not only will you need the bathroom every few minutes, but it is sometimes dangerous to drink such amounts of fluids.
Just from this brief section of information I can tell you that Lipton diet green tea is not necessarily unhealthy for you, it won't make you gain weight, but it will be slower in it's benefits to your health than freshly brewed green tea. If it is the taste of green tea that you do not like you can always add lemon juice, lime juice, peppermint or other similar flavors. Just remember to stay away from sugar to keep it zero calories
