Kankles (or cankles which is the proper spelling) is a term that came about in a movie “Shallow Hal” in the early 90’s. I am sure it was probably around before then, being used to make fun of others in high school, or to have a laugh at someone’s expense. However, many do not find any humor in it at all, and is arguably an attack on someone’s self esteem. Cankles is when your ankle and calf have no curvature hence the merging of the words to form Cankles.
What cause this lack of curvature is usually extra fat, but in some cases, can be the retention of water. Both can of course happen as well. Some people have large ankle bones, and this can cause cankles in some cases. Odds are, you have seen someone with cankles before, and perhaps you will be made more aware from this article that it is a serious condition. However, it can be helped, but not without a little work.
Unfortunately, many turn to cankle surgery (ankle liposuction) to reduce the size of their ankles. I personally hate surgery, and never think anyone should go under the knife. You risk infection and something going wrong. Please, try something more natural and healthy for yourself first!
For getting rid of your cankles, some have great success with reducing their sodium, or salt intake. Too much salt allows your body to retain too much water, and sometimes that might cause swelling in your ankles. Staying hydrated can counter the effects of sodium.
Cankle exercises can also help. The fact is, too many calories and weight gain can cause you to have cankles, so losing a few pounds would defiantly help. Even if it doesn’t reduce the size of your ankles that much, the health benefits are awesome for you. Just 20 minutes of walking every day could do this for you.
So Kankles…er…Cankles is when your calf and ankle look blended together from too much water retention or fat in your ankle. Good luck on getting rid of your cankles!
