An ankle sprain is an injury when one or more of the ligaments in the ankle are torn or partially torn by some kind of injury. It can happen as a result of some kind of strenuous physical activity, like sports or a particularly physical job, to even a simple wrong step off the curb. Practically everyone at one point or another in their lives experiences a sprained ankle. It is just one of those things that is nearly inevitable. However, just because it is bound to happen, does not mean one can not take steps to prevent it from happening as often, or treating it after the fact to reduce the pain; enter orthotics for ankle sprain.

Orthotics for an ankle sprain are specifically designed to reduce the stress on the foot after the injury has occurred, or alternatively, to provide support for the foot in order to help prevent an ankle sprain from occurring. It acts as both a treatment for the injury itself, and as a preventative measure. It does so via several different methods. One, it redistributes the weight of the body on the foot, thus allowing it to perform more efficiently, reducing the chances of a misstep. Second, by reducing the strain on the foot itself, it also helps to reduce swelling and general pain that may have occurred from the injury. Finally, it acts as extra padding to soften the step, also reducing the stress on the ankle.

As a direct result of these different processes, orthotics for ankle sprain are a particularly well suited piece of equipment for anyone, not just athletes and people who have very physical occupations. It is important to note that in conjunction with other methods of treating or preventing ankle injuries, that orthotics for ankle sprain work that much more efficiently.

Regular icing on the injury is the classic means of helping to treat it. This reduces the swelling and encourages the muscles to recuperate faster than if it is left untouched. Regular exercise of the calf, ankle and foot muscles help significantly. With a stronger base of muscles lining the ankle, the likelihood of an injury decreases dramatically, like boarding up the windows during a heavy storm, they help to protect the weaker layers underneath. Finally, with the addition of new digital methods for designing orthotics for ankle sprain, they are now much more affordable by everyone on nearly any budget.
