First of all I am not a Vegetarian and I have nothing against Vegetarians because many are my close friends and family members, include individuals who I associate with on a daily base, plus I socialize with those who are Non-Vegetarians. I do have a good relationship with both, however, I have wondered if a Vegetarian lifestyle is for me or not.
Over the years I have witnessed many Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian dropping dead left and right and the sad thing most of them were not exactly in their golden years, but almost there, plus they all seem to die of the same disease such as cancer and other ailments. I guess the sad thing is that we will all die someday.
There are statics’ showing that the number of Cancer-related diseases is higher in Non-Vegetarian than Vegetarian, yet what I observe seem to be the opposite since I live among Vegetarians. I have to wonder out loud, “Are the statics correct”? I wonder if I am missing something somewhere or am I being fed a diet of false stories. This business has become like a Religious belief or a boxing match such as Vegetarian vs. Non-Vegetarian. Many of us are left to wonder which is right or who will collect the Championship belt.
A couple months ago I observed in the local newspaper, a story about a Senior Citizen who made it to one hundred years old from consuming a steady diet of Cigarettes and Whisky on a daily base include eating a balanced diet of Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian related food. What was amazing about the article was that she was not on any form of medication nor suffers from any form of ailments plus she made it a regular habit to visit her local doctor from time to time for a checkup. During her 100th Birthday, her gifts from her Children and close Friends contain Cartons of Cigarettes and Bottles of Whiskies.
A few years back my father in law who is a straight Vegetarian with amazing fitness and health, or so I thought took a bite of a slice of peeled Orange as a snack and immediately his four front teeth fell out of his mouth. Just imagine, from one single bite and the result was four missing teeth, this was an amazing event that I witnessed. Consider that he clamped his teeth on a soft slice of Orange instead of an Iron Pipe. There is also the matter of my Mother-In-Law, who was stout and active include full of life got reduced to almost skin and bones and died from bone cancer, which left me scratching my head.
I guess each person should decide which diet they wish to live on as they venture through life because it is possible that there is no right way or wrong way for a person to eat, since what work for one person may not work for everyone. I feel that it is best to eat in moderation by balancing meat and veggie, plus making good food choices, and eat plenty of fruits.
Each person is free to make their choice in this world, therefore I am not advocating anyone to be a Non-Vegetarian or a Vegetarian. That is their personal business and free choice, however, if you are feeling good about your health as a Vegetarian or a Non-Vegetarian then that’s good, and then keep up the good job.
According to the Bible the first man and woman were Vegetarians, and in the book of Daniel there is a story about the diet Daniel and his two companions choose to consume. They requested to dine on vegetables and water. Daniel 1:12 "Please test your servants for ten days, and let us be given some vegetables to eat and water to drink”. The story went on to say that they looked better and healthier than all the young men who ate the royal food from the King’s kitchen. This is what most Vegetarian use to back up their story which is true since they are the words of the Bible. Plus, there are those who will open the book and support their argument by pointing to 1 Corinthians 8:8 – “But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse”. Which argument is better or right? I don’t know and I am not so concerned, it is best for you to be the judge.
I think that the best form of vegetable that a person should consume, are those that are fresh from the Farm and is not processed or modified in the Factories. Some form of chemical ingredients that are used in the processing of food may be unhealthy for us which may explain why some Vegetarians are beginning to compete head to head with the Non-Vegetarians in the health and death department.
Food that is Modified contain phosphate additives for the purpose of taste and shelf-life, however, these cause kidney failure, weak bones and rapidly aging. Plagues are surfacing in human from the use of vegetable oil, refined sugar, processed flour and other artificial ingredients. Therefore, it is best, to stick with fresh Vegetables from the Farm.
A Vegetarian diet may be proper for some people, but not everyone because people are different in different ways. If one is receiving the proper result from the consumption of Vegetable alone and feel good about oneself then that is wonderful, and best for them to continue with their procedure.
To all Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian, I wish you all healthy and a long life. Cheers!
I totally agree with Juan and you Andrew that a balance diet is the best practice, I'm more vegetarian than non-vegetarian.
Atif, continue with your balanced diet if you are feeling healthy and in good spirit. Cheers!
Hi Juan, I am going to hunt down that article and see if I can forward it to you, I know you will find the really story amazing. Thank you for your input.
I have tried both vegetarian and non-vegetarian diets, and I think what you say makes a lot of sense, namely a well balanced diet is probably the best choice... I loved your story about the lady who made it to 100 years of age on a "steady diet of Cigarettes and Whisky." I realize those are exceptions, but I can't help but chuckle as we worry making the right food choices...
