If you are suffering from heel spur pain, you are certainly going to be looking for a way to relieve that pain. Heel pain is one of those horrible pains that just drags you down. No one realises how much time they spend on their feet until they actually experience a painful foot problem.

In this article we will be exploring heel spur orthotics. The different types available on the market and how they can help to relieve pain and also prevent heel spurs from forming in the first place.

What Are Heel Spur Orthotics?

Basically they pads that you pop into a pair of shoes, which cushion and surround the heel. They are designed to alleviate pain and also to ensure that the foot is placed in the correct position when moving about. The natural thing to do when you have any type of limb or joint pain is to move is such a way so that you are not putting pressure on the affected area and thus do not feel pain from it. However, this can lead to other problems within your overall structure as you are placing undue pressure on other areas. Certainly if you have pain in your foot and you try to walk without getting that pain, there is a good chance you are twisting your back or hips awkwardly which will definitely lead to problems in the future.

Over the Counter Orthotics

These as you would guess, can be purchased from the majority of local pharmacies or online stores, They have a cushioned area for the heel which eases the pain. You pop them in your shoes and just go about your normal business. Its a good idea to try these out to see what you think before maybe looking at more expensive options.

Custom Heel Spur Orthotics

If you find that you are getting relief from over the counter orthotics but wish to have something especially geared to your foot, you may find that custom heel spur orthotics will work for you. These are made by qualified professionals and can only be obtained on production of a prescription, one you have seen a medical specialist.

If you do see a medical professional for your heel spurs, and they suggest surgery straight away, it may be worth asking if you can try custom made orthotics first. Some surgeons like to go the surgery route immediately, but its not always one that has to be taken and its obviously better to get relief without having to go under an anesthetic.

Night Splints

Night splints are made from a very soft fabric. As the name implies, you wear them at night and they stretch out the tendons that cause the problems whilst you are sleeping. This g Night splints are soft-fabric boots that are worn at night and stretch the fascia while you are sleeping. This gradual stretch makes the tissue of the heel more supple after moving and helps to alleviate any heel pain.

Hopefully you will see from this, that there are options open to you other than surgery to relieve the pain from heel spurs. Give heel spur orthotics a try and hopefully you will soon be running around comfortably rather than limping in agony.
