Giants Roll Over Falcons to Set Up Packers Rematch

The New York Giants demolished the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday and move on to face the Green bay Packers next week. The Giants defense dominated the Falcons offense all day and the Falcons could only muster up a lousy two points. A safety in the second quarter, as the Falcons forced a penalty on Eli Manning to get their only points in the whole-game. The Giants shined on all sides of the ball today and it showed.

All year the Giants were the worst rushing team in the NFL, but today they put that all behind them as they rushed for 172 yards. With Atlanta up by two points, the Giants needed a big score before the end of the half. They delivered with a four yard touchdown pass to Hakim Nicks to give New York a 7-2 lead at halftime. In the third quarter, the Giants added to their lead with a 22 yard field goal by Lawrence Tynes. Then, as the third quarter was winding down Eli hooked up with Nicks again. This time it was for 72 yards, as Nicks broke away from the pack to make it 17-2 Giants lead.

There were some big game changing plays by the Giants defense in this game. Three times the Falcons offense attempted to go for it on fourth down and short. However, the Giants defense denied them all three attempts which really took the wind out of their-sails. Especially, in the second quarter when the Falcons had the ball inside the Giants 25 yard line. The Giants stuffed the quarterback sneak by Matt Ryan, on fourth and inches. It really changed the momentum of the game into the Giants favor.

With Brandon Jacobs rushing for 92 yards and Bradshaw going for 63 yards, it really propelled the Giants offense. The Giants were really able to-establish their run game and eat up the clock. Not to mention, Eli Manning and his fantastic day throwing the football. Eli had 23 completions on 32 attempts and passed for 277 yards. Plus, three big passing touchdowns, including the last one to Manningham in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.

In the fourth quarter, the 27 yard touchdown to Manningham made the score 24-2 with the Giants leading. A big shocker for me was that Michael Turner was held to only 41 yards on 15 carries. Turner had a remarkable season all year-long, but against this reborn Giants defense he was-stopped all day. Even the Falcons other offensive weapons like Roddy White, Tony Gonzalez and Julio Jones were without a touchdown on the day. Which is very rare because they have been scoring touchdowns all year, at least one per game.

In conclusion, the Giants defense really showed up to play today and they proved that they belong in the playoffs. As for the Falcons, they have yet to earn a win in the playoffs in the last three years and continue their slump. Although, the Giants have an uphill battle as they prepare to face last years super bowl champions. I think that you can never count this Giants team out because it will come back to haunt you.

The Falcons were just terrible in that game, I don't understand b/c they should of atleast scored 6 points if they just settled for a fieldgoal. That could of changed the dynamic of the game as well, bad coaching

Great defensive battle, the Giants finally showed some consistency! You covered a lot of good points, but you forgot one of the 4th down plays. I think?
