The Heisman trophy winner jinx is still out there. The 2011 Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin 111 of the Baylor Bears faces the Washington Huskies. Over years past, whoever wins the Heisman Trophy, the team he plays for is almost destined to lose their bowl game. Why is this, the Baylor Bears are picked to win this game by 10 points. Does the team just get too confident or what? Is the other team just more prepared to face the team, with the Heisman winner, I don’t know.
Robert Griffin 111 or (RG111) has been truly amazing this year; some people say he didn’t deserve the Heisman. Let’s just look at some of his stats this year and I will let you decide that one. RG111 had 267 completions out of 369 attempts for 3,998 yards. He had a passer rating of 192.3 with 36 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions, which is 72%. Not to mention his rushing stats, 161 attempts for 644 yards and 9 touchdowns. Total yards rushing and passing was 4,657 yards.
RG111 has set many school records including; rushing yards by a freshman: 843, rushing yards by a QB: 843, rushing touchdowns: 13, career rushing touchdowns by a QB: 23, and 100 yard rushing games by a QB: 5. these are just some of the school records that were broken by RG111. I realize that there were other qualified candidates but these are some outstanding statistics. Robert Griffin 111 is the first player from Baylor University to win the Heisman.
The Baylor Bears had a pretty successful year, some say only because of RG111. Baylor started off the season facing the TCU Horn frogs, which were ranked, 15th in the country. RG111 passed for 359 yards, had 5 touchdowns, and a 77.8% completion percentage, for the upset. Baylor kicked a game winning field goal to go on to win 50-48.
RG111 is planning on entering the NFL draft. I could think of a few NFL teams right now, that are desperately in the need of a good quarterback. Will the Indianapolis Colts draft RG111 or will they wait and see the results of Peyton Manning. Something tells me that a neck injury is not an injury that I would want to gamble on. Peyton Manning is one of the best quarterbacks of all time but are his days numbered. Indianapolis Colts may want to have a backup plan, whether it is RG111 or someone else. Let’s not forget Andrew Luck would be in that same category. It will be interesting to see how this ends up.
