This was one of those games that were over before it ever started. Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints were up 31-0 by the time the Colts finally scored on a field goal with 1:56 remaining in the first half. It didn't get any better from there for the Colts, as they remain a top team in the "Suck for Luck" sweepstakes along with the winless Miami Dolphins.
Drew Brees went on the attack early and often in this one. He connected with Marques Colston from 14 yards for the first score of the game. Colston ended up catching a second TD pass finishing with 7 rec. for 98 yards. He wasn't alone in the double score category, as "The Next Big Thing" Jimmy Graham also tallied two scores, but did end his streak of 100 yard receiving games as he finished with 6-54. Brees completed twelve passes to just his running backs as Darren Sproles continued his assault for fantasy owners, he caught six, Pierre Thomas caught 5, and Mark Ingram brought in one.
All of the backs enjoyed success running the ball too. Ingram had the high total of 91 yards on 14 carries, Sproles enjoyed 88 yards on only 12 carries, and Thomas clocked 5.7 yards per attempt with 57 yards on 10 tries. Granted it was the Indianapolis Colts, and they are bad, but they aren't this bad are they? There wasn't any resistance from the opening kick, so maybe the Colts really are this bad. Either way, the Saints looked great.
Having head coach Sean Peyton up in the booth after being injured last week by TE Jimmy Graham as he was tackled on the sideline. Peyton, with leg in cast propped up, watched from behind the glass, relayed info the coach on the field, who then relayed that to Brees. After that performance, he may never come down to the field again. If it's not broke, don't fix it as they say.
After only seven weeks, Drew Brees is well on his way to shattering Dan Marino's record for passing yards in a season. It's only natural, especially this year, that it finally happens, and Brees isn't even leading the league in the category, it's Tom Brady. According to the current projections, Brady, Brees, and Aaron Rodgers are all on pace to break Marino's record of 5084. With teams not having to face the winter weather yet, time will tell for these would be record breakers, but it would seem that one of these guys, be it Brees, Brady, or Rodgers, but one of them should be the new record holder by year end.
