Giving thanks is usually reserved for saying grace around the family table, when tucking children into beds at night or maybe in the the car when an accident has been avoided. Lately though, the star of the Denver Broncos and quarterback, Tim Tebow, has taken his religious faith and thanksgiving to a brand new level. Tebow makes no effort to hide his religious faith, no effort to conceal his witnessing for Christ and uses the media at sports events to spread his faith in Christ, causing friction amongst fans, unbelievers and the city of Denver to wonder if the Broncos hired a new quarterback or a potential minister of the gospel.

To watch the latest games where Tebow has been involved, one would think that God is indeed a Broncos fan, for Tebow has stumbled his way through every game to pull out a miserly win, taking the Broncos past ugly games to ultimate victories. He hasn't be able to do it by himself, not by a long shot. His passing game is still unpredictable at best. Still, throughout the games and at their endings, Tebow has been seen dropping to one knee, propping himself on his football helmet and whispering a prayer to God, then rising and pointing to the sky, he continues praying as he goes. He makes no bones about it; he is a Christian and has a zest for telling the world about it. The problem arises when the rest of the world has to listen to it, week in and week out. Christians are happy to have their agenda spread via the lips of such a sports superstar. However, the many fans who just want to watch the game are beginning to tire of hearing about "tebowing" and seeing the displays of heavenly affection on a weekly basis.

Once the game is over and the news media gathers around in the locker room to ask Tebow questions, he seems to feel the need to give credit where he feels that credit is due, he thanks his lord and savior Jesus Christ. This is his chance to witness to the world and to his fans who are waiting to hear what he has to say about football. Sometimes he points to the sky as if it is where is savior lives. It makes some wonder why he doesn't point to his heart. Tebow has used this platform of the media throughout his short, though promising, football career to promote his Christian agenda. He believes in and supports the right to life movement and promotes this conservative viewpoint whenever he has an open microphone that will let him speak on the issue.

Many Christians see Tebow as a voice for the voiceless and he, his followers and their agenda have drawn a distinct line in the sand. It seems that he is either loved or hated by those that know of him and of what he stands for. In listening to his weekly witnessing, it is clear his audience has never reminded him or he has never paid attention to the Bible verse that says "When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father who is unseen, then your Father who is unseen will reward you openly" (Matthew 6:6) Maybe Tebow sees this open form of worship as part of his witnessing to those who still do not know of Jesus.

Interestingly enough, those who dislike Tebow have a list that runs a mile long and it includes much more than religious issues that they may have with him. Some items on the list are that he has an ugly throwing motion, his humility is fictitious, and some complain that he appears to be too sincere. (The New York Magazine) Apparently, if anyone can be too sincere, it's Tebow. No one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes. In living such a pristine and upright life, Tebow will be scrutinized within the public eye for any discrepencies. It may not be fair, but that's the game of being a superstar. The bigger you are, the more people want to see you fall.

Retired football player Kurt Warner, who is also a Christian, is concerned for Tebow and the route that he has chosen with being so open in combining football and faith. Kurt was reported as saying that if he were to talk to Tebow, he would caution him to put down the boldness of his words and to continue to live his faith and to let the teammates do the talking for him by cheering on the testimony that Tebow lives. (Yardbarker) He went on to say that as soon as Tebow thanks his lord and savior, a wall goes up with some people and that Tebow will need to learn to be more strategic. (Yardbarker) Maybe Tebow doesn't know how to be a sneakier Christian at this time, but when your Christian friends are saying to tone it down, it might be time to listen. Yet, with all of the warnings of displaying faith, Tebow goes ahead and thanks his lord and savior before conducting any interviews and ends his interviews with "God bless". He is nothing, if not consistent and deserves credit for having the courage to do so.

Facing the real issue of why Tebow is with the Denver Broncos, it is not that he is a Christian, a good guy or even a willing participant, he is expected to play football and play it well. The Broncos are looking for "the man" to fill that number one spot, the new John Elway. Some of his die hard fans of Denver who watch him week after week and support the team are beginning to tire of "Tebowing" and pointing to the heavens and the mouthing of words "lord and savior". Many fans want the man in the spotlight to take God out of the limelight and do what he is being paid to do, focus on football. Not to simplify his position, but the Denver fans are looking for that special someone, to sweep them off their feet and march them down the aisle to the Super Bowl. In the last week or two, we've seen Tebow begin to show what he's made of, he seems more comfortable with the team and when he passes, there seems to be someone that he's passing the ball to. There is forward progression and its sitting well with everyone.

Tim Tebow is a man with big plans and agendas. Tebow has a caring, sincere heart and whether you agree with him or not, he's sincere in his endeavors. He has many objectives on his plate to which the people of Denver wish him the very best. One of the agendas with which the Bronco fans can agree is improving his performance at game time. He looks committed to the cause, and his fans couldn't be happier.

In conclusion, when Lindsey Vonn won her race at Beaver Creek, she was captured in photos doing the "Tebow". Let us hope that this fad dies down soon and that the only person "Tebowing" before long will be the man that bears it's name.
