As a Green Bay Packers fan, I love seeing them play on televisions, they are one of the best teams playing and have always been. They were the first team to ever win a Super-Bowl(thats right Super-Bowl I) against the Kansas City Chiefs. Technically though the one the first two Super-Bowls (the next one against the Raiders). In total they have won Four Super-Bowls, thats more than half the Football teams have ever won.
Packers History:
The Green Bay Packers are the third oldest football team ever created(right behind the Decatur Staleys which is now the Chicago Bears, and the Chicago Cardinals which now is the Arizona Cardinals). It was founded by Earl"Curly" Lambeau, which is how the stadium got its name(Lambeau field). The Green Bay Packers have won more than thirteen league championships, thats more than any other team in the league. There rivals are the Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Lions and the Chicago Bears(which dates back to the 1920's). Though the Packers saw relatively great success throughout the sixties, there glory years seemed to slip between 1969-1992.
The Grim Period
From the end of the 60's up until the early 90's the Green Bay Packers, suffered from numerous problems. These problems ranged from poor draft picks, to failing health and even some questionable characters of some of the players. During this time they had more than five head coaches(two of them which were former Packers Players themselves). Each coach did worst than his predecessor, which dragged the Packers winning percentage down to .500 or even lower.
They Called Him "Farve"
Due to the issues of the 1970's, 1980's and early 1990's led the packers management to seek change. Ron Wolf was hired to be the New General Manager along with Mike Holmgren as the Packer's New Head Coach. These two men would be the beginning of what I call the "Brett Farve Era". One of the better quarterbacks of his time, Brett Farve would go on to pull the struggling Packers out of their downward spiral.
1996 NFL Super-Bowl Champions
This was an incredible year for the Packers, having dominated all their competition all season long(13 wins, 3 losses), they went on to secure home field advantage throughout the playoffs, they also had one of the best teams in football history. They were ranked Number 1. in offense(Brett Farve), Number 1. in defense(Reggie White) and Number 1. in special teams(Desmond Howard). They went on to defeat the New England Patriots and claim their first Super-bowl championship in over Twenty-seven years!
1996- Present.
The Green Bay Packers, have continued to better themselves, with new additions to the roster, as well as losing some(Brett Farve who retired in 2006). Through the years the Packers have faced many obstacles to return to the top and becoming one of the best teams in the NFL. As a fan, it feels me with a lot of pride to see my team rise back to the top, in spite of all the bad free agent picks, and other fiascos they faced in the early era of this team.
