Raiders Sleep With the Fishes After Miami Visit

The display put on today by the Oakland Raiders was enough to induce vomiting from any fan. Their play was lethargic, uninspiring, lame, and pathetic. It was as if they gave no effort at all. They really didn't even show up until there were only a few minutes left and already behind by 34, and scored two meaningless touchdowns when the Dolphins stopped playing hard to avoid the shutout 34-14.

Not only did they lose in a humiliating fashion, Jesus felt like intervening in the Denver game, and Tim Tebow pulled off some more "magic" and the Broncos are now tied for first place with them in the AFC West division. Not only do they have to worry about that, but they also have to worry about taking their sorry butts to Green Bay and deal with their frozen tundra. The unstoppable force welcomes the easily movable object next week.

I'm not sure what point Coach Hue Jackson was trying to make by holding out Rolando McClain from starting, but allowing him to play the rest of the game. That's not much of a lesson, and probably didn't have any lasting effect either. It remains to be seen what the fallout of his situation in Alabama will bring, but any way it ends up is not going to be positive for him or the Raiders.

The Oakland defense made Reggie Bush look like a Heisman winner again. He routinely sliced right through their front seven and had easy runs all day long. They exceeded their league high average of over 9 penalties per game with 10 for 91 yards. Just when you think this team has turned a corner they miss the flight to Miami. The Raiders are notorious for thinking they are better than they are, and this was a classic example with Green Bay next on the schedule.

I can't really say that Carson Palmer had a bad day, but it wasn't anywhere near what I would call good. His completion percentage was below 50%, and the only real damage he did was after the Dolphins called off the dogs in the last few minutes of garbage time. There was no run game to speak of, and it finally looked like all of those high carry games got to Michael Bush. 10 carries for 18 yards isn't going to get it done.

Hats off to the Miami defense, but the Raiders were a no show today. They couldn't get any traction on offense and now more than ever are missing their injured stars. Darren McFadden has missed five games now, Jacoby Ford has missed a four, and Denarius Moore has skipped the last two. They all seemed a bit closer to playing during practice this past week, so maybe they can finally get on the field in a big game.

For the Raiders to be successful against Aaron Rodgers and company they have to do what they supposedly do best. Score points in the passing game. Wear down the defense with a strong rushing attack, and use their front four to get pressure on the quarterback. If they don't do that they are going to get beaten, probably pretty badly. But if they can do what they do best, and make Rodgers rush his throws, and score the ball against a suspect Packer defense, the game should be close. First the Raiders have to show up, and then we'll see if they came to play.

Raiders Trade for Palmer, At What Cost?
Unlike in other sports, NFL football trades are typically few and far between, and when they do happen, it's rarely a blockbuster. When the Oakland Raiders agreed to give up their first round draft pick in 2012, and a conditional 2nd round pick in 2013, they basically told everyone that…
