This was all pretty new to Joe Flacco, the getting booed at home thing. In Flacco's short career he's never heard it quite like this, but that's not to say he didn't deserve it. After the stinker they all put up in the previous game, on Monday Night Football of all places, to the Jacksonville Jaguars of all teams, they should have expected it. Through halftime of this game it was just more of the same as they were already behind 24-6.
Arizona jumped out to the early lead on a couple of big plays. The first was a strip and fumble of Flacco that they cashed in with a Beanie Wells 1 yard run. Wells showed toughness for the first time in his career, he had knee swelling that hampered him most of the week, yet still ran 22 times for 83 yards and the touch. Kevin Kolb was still underwhelming and pedestrian managing a meager 153 yards, 98 of which went to Larry Fitzgerald on 3 catches. First round draft pick Patrick Peterson showed why as he returned a punt 82 yards for a touchdown.
Flacco knew he had been subpar lately, and needed to do something to spur his team to victory. He started by getting the ball to former Cardinal Anquan Boldin. Boldin was catching balls all over the field and seemingly couldn't be stopped. He had 145 yards and 7 catches and almost had another big catch for a TD that was called back by penalty. Ray Rice delivered 99 total yards and three huge touchdowns. Every time the Ravens got the ball close, Rice would pound it in.
Early in the 4th quarter, Rice scored to tie put the Ravens ahead 27-24. The Cardinals showed some pluck, as they were able to drive down far enough for a 45 yard Jay Feeley field goal to tie the score. On the final possession Flacco hit rookie Torrey Smith for a 36 yard completion to the six, and the virtual dagger. Billy Cundiff hit the 25 yard kick as time expired.
Arizona has not played well this season, and will be limping towards the finish line. The good news is if Kevin Kolb continues to be this bad, and the defense doesn't get any better, Ken Whisenhunt might have a chance at a QB in the early part of the draft next year. Please pardon the pun, be they may even get lucky enough to draw the number one selection, and get the Heisman Trophy favorite from Stanford Andrew Luck.
Baltimore is now looking up at the Pittsburgh Steelers even after the opening night beat down they applied to them. Guess where the Ravens travel this week? That's right, they are in steel town for the rematch. The Steelers are playing much better now, and this game should mean a whole lot down the stretch. After that they havetough games against the 49ers and Chargers, and two more against the upstart Bengals. All the other games they should chalk up as victories. As usual, the AFC North will come down to the wire, and it will be these two teams at the end.
