The New York Giants are Super Bowl champions as they knocked off the New England Patriots in Indianapolis on Sunday night. This game was a rematch of the 2007 Super Bowl and the Patriots were salivating for revenge. Unfortunately, for the Patriots the Giants hearts were just a little-bit bigger on this night. The Giants receivers were able to make the big plays that the Patriots receivers failed to do. It really was an unbelievable game as both teams fought until the very last play.
The game started off with a big controversial play where Tom Brady was-called for intentional grounding in his own end zone. Justin Tuck was applying some pressure and Brady tried to get rid of it in a hurry, but it cost him two points for the safety. The Giants drove down the field with a lot of momentum and scored the games first touchdown on a 2-yard touchdown pass to Victor Cruz. The Patriots answered back and got on the board with a 29-yard field-goal in the second quarter to make it 9-3 Giants lead.
Just before the-half ended the momentum shifted in the Patriots direction with a big holding call on third and one for the Giants. Brandon Jacobs appeared to have the first down as the Giants were attempting to score another touchdown. Instead, they had to punt the ball and pinned the Patriots deep inside their own five yard line. Yet, Tom Brady led the Patriots 98-yards down the field on a 4-yard touchdown pass to D.Woodhead. Therefore, the Patriots ended up taking the lead 10-9 at the end of the half.
In the third quarter, the Patriots received the ball and marched down the field again. This time A.Hernandez caught a 12-yard touchdown pass that wore down the Giants defense. It appeared as if the Patriots were about to take the game over and put the game out of reach. However, the Giants were not finished yet as they put a drive together and barely squeezed in a 38-yard field-goal by L.Tynes. The Giants struggled all-game as they were unable to execute in the red-zone.
With the Patriots leading 17-12, as the third quarter was winding down. The Giants rallied to put another drive together. They winded up scoring a 33-yard field-goal by L.Tynes to make it 17-15, with the Patriots leading. The Giants were very lucky as they had the ball bouncing their way, considering two big fumbles that they were able to recover. In the first half, the Giants really didn't put much pressure on Brady and he excelled because of it. However, in the second half the Giants were able to pressure Brady much more and it paid off in the end.
In conclusion, this was one of the most exciting games ever as it came down to the very last play to decide the winner. The Super Bowl MVP winner Eli Manning proved his elite-status with what turned out to-be the game-winning drive. Eli completed the game-changing pass to M.Manningham on a 38-yard pass to ignite the offense. The Giants kept their composure and drove down the field as A.Bradshaw scored the game-winning touchdown on a 6-yard run. Although, the Patriots allowed him to march in untouched to give T.Brady enough time to win the game. With two big drops by Patriot wide-receivers, the Patriots had to settle for a hail-mary pass that just fell short. In the end, the Giants prevailed with their fourth Super Bowl win in franchise history.
I watched the Super Bowl with my husband and I thought it was a great game. I am a Patriots fan, but I give the Giants credit b/c they kicked our butts. However, if the wide-receivers just held on to the ball I think the outcome would of been different.
There were a lot of whatif's in this game, but basically the Pats couldn't throw the ball downfield and that was their downfall!
Liked the article and LOVED the game, one of the best SB's I have seen in a long time. The last four or five SB's have been very good. The Giants shocked a lot of Pats fans on Sunday night and I am so happy they did. Not a Giants fan, but I hate the Pats. Eli def. has the elite status now, your right! That Manningham catch was amazing and will go down as one of the best catches and throws in SB history.
Thanks Josh, it really was a great game! Eli deserves most of the credit, but so does the defense.
That was a great game, I can't believe the Giants won though. I reallly thought the Pats would pull it off, it just goes to show you never count the underdog out. I heard that Vegas had 100 to 1 odds on the Giants winning the super bowl after they lost to the Packers. That could of been some great cash in my pocket. Plus, I also heard that some guy bet 1000 dollars that the first score would be a safety and ofcourse he won. I think those odds were only 50 to 1 amazingly. Weird that it was that low, but that's Vegas I guess. Great article I really liked it Rob.
I was just glad that the right team showed up, b/c I thought the bad NYG were going to peek their heads and blow it! Thankfully, I was wrong and they played a very good game.
