Tim Tebow was up to his old tricks again on Sunday, and yet again his team came out on top. San Diego kicker Nick Novak missed a 53 yard field goal in overtime, and Denver's Matt Prater didn't miss on his opportunity which gave the Bronco's the win.
Novak was shown on the sidelines late in the game in what could be termed as "Tebow Formation", however it was learned that he was just relieving himself on the sideline. The real formation was being done by the man himself during the failed attempt, and once it missed it was only a matter of time before God saw to it that Timmy would be a winner again.
I've heard enough of the pros and cons of Tim Tebow. On one hand he has awful mechanics and wouldn't be allowed under center in most circumstances. On the other hand, all the guy does is win. In this game he actually improved statistically, and that is saying something when you look at his final line. 9-18 for 143 yards with one touchdown and an NFL record 22 rushing attempts for another 67 yards.
Wait a second. 50% accuracy and 67 rush yards is an improvement? You heard it correctly. John Elway, who some say is the greatest comeback artist in NFL history, still can't seem to embrace the young quarterback. After Elway was ripped in the Denver media for still not backing Tebow during his win streak, Tebow actually agreed with him. He acknowledged the need to be better in all phases of the game, but especially on third downs.
It's just coming to light for some people right now, but Tebow doesn't pull off this impressive streak without a defense that's playing lights out. Von Miller and Elvis Dumervil are playing incredible football these days. The only time during this four game streak they scored more than 17 points was the game against Oakland. That day they unveiled their option style offense and caught a team by surprise. If this defense doesn't contain teams and hold them to under 20 points, Tebow can't generate enough offense to pull out these miracles.
That being said, Tebow has shown incredible amounts of leadership, poise, and self-confidence. He's getting hammered daily by the media and his peers, and he just lets it roll off his back. Whether you like the guy or not, if you have the same faith or no faith at all, you just have to respect the hell out of Tim Tebow. I don't care if he ever really makes it as a quarterback in the league, but I do now care about the man himself. I want him to do well for himself, and I think he's going to have a career in this league regardless of what position he ends up playing.
The win helped them keep pace with the first place Oakland Raiders. They are one game behind and they have several winnable games on their remaining schedule. They will be tested as they play a staunch run defense in Chicago who they face in two weeks, and the following week they will have to keep pace with the Patriots.
