It was "Tebow Time" in south Florida again on Sunday. No, Tebow didn't jump out of a time machine to lead the Gators to a victory. He is a startingprofessional quarterback in the NFL now, and he's still doing what he did all thetime in college, winning. Why hasn't somebody suggested that Tim Tebow find a nice comfortable spot on the bench every game until the last five minutes? It seems to me that is the only time Tebow is any good.
For the first 54 minutes and 37 seconds he had connected on four passes in fourteen attempts. That's 29% accuracy throwing the ball. I'm going to repeat something right here for effect, He is a STARTING professional quarterback in the National Football League. I could see a backup hurried into duty putting up a line like this, but Tebow had two weeks to prepare to do this. I know it's only one game, but I see what all the analysts have been seeing for a while now. He does not have the inherent skills to be an every game starter in the NFL.
If you want to throw the first 55 minutes out, and just go with the last five, that's where Tebow should enter. Down 15 and barely five minutes to go, Tebow signaled to the crowd that it indeed was "Tebow Time". He led the team on an 80 yard drive, and then they recovered an onside kick that allowed him to go another 54 yards for a score. With 17 seconds remaining and down two, at the line Tebow audibled to himself, and took it on over right side for the tie.
In overtime, Denver's D.J. Williams, out of DeLaSalle High School, forced a fumble on a sack of Matt Moore that put the Bronco's at the Miami 36. Matt Prater put on the finishing touches and Tebow was a winner in his debut as the starter. He did get 65 yards rushing on 8 tries however, and made the plays when they counted. I have a bit of a problem with that last statement though. When they counted? Don't they all count at some point or another? If Timmy was any good over the larger majority of the game, his heroics would not have been needed.
The Dolphins never looked very good either, but they were doing just enough to come out of the contest with their first win. It wasn't meant to be, as the defense seemed helpless to stand up to anything Tebow was offering. They have now lost nine games in a row, the current longest streak in the NFL. Since he's been given the dreaded "Vote of Approval" from ownership, I'd say Sporano is done. If it's not soon, it will be atthe end of the year. If they can at least be the best at sucking and win the "Suck for Luck" campaign, there is no way Sporano will be getting his hands on that gold mine.
