When the New Orleans Saints Came marching In last week, the NFL took away their wings.
Are the new Orleans Saints the NFLs new bad boys?
What is a bounty Program?
Any organized program that offers rewards for knocking players out of a game, intentionally injuring players or both, for either monetary gain or other personal gain.
The new Orleans Saints have been caught running an organized bounty system and the NFL has handed down the stiffest penalties in the history of the NFL but I feel that is not enough.
In this writers opinion this kind of behavior has no place in any sport. After years of training and hard work, and finally making a professional team, to be taken out like this should be a crime, and it just may end up being one.
Congress will take a look.
Senator Dick Durbin has set up a hearing to determine if any laws are needed against this sort of activity.
Many people are saying Congress has enough to deal with as it is and why stick their nose in the NFLs business, as the NFL has handed down some of the most severe penalties ever applied to date. but I tend to agree with the Senator.
It seems the norm to be able to behave differently during a sporting event than on the streets of our fine country.
Are sporting events immune to federal, State and Local laws?
This will be the focus of the hearing. The argument will be interesting.
If this were to happen out of sports, it would be assault at the very least.Where do you draw the line when it comes to criminal behavior, and this in my opinion is just that.
Where the NFL penalties adequate?
They banned Pete Rose for life for betting on baseball and I see no difference here.
This could and might have been going on with other teams, and many players have yet to feel the wrath of the NFLs reach. How can anyone know how many careers may have been shortened, and how many dreams may have been crushed. Is it asking too much to have a level playing field to compete without all the distractions of cheating?
This is going to be an off season to remember in the NFL. We will hopefully find out just how wide spread this was and hopefully discourage it form happening again.
I expect to see many players sitting out a few games at the start of the season, stay tuned.

What a shame....better not play and what does sports mean to them...Thanks, Shawn!
Shawn, We are a country of laws in the USA. Seems that Congress isn't needed to enforce laws? Or is this a message that Congress now formally recognizes the NFL has never obeyed the law? Hmm. Maybe faster resolution would be recommending the NFL be banned for a season if they don't clean it up immediately? blessings, Cynthia
I agree it's a problem but I sure hope Congress doesn't get involved. They can't handle what they have on their plates let alone take on something as minor as this. Yes I said minor. This has been going on since the inception of contact sports. I don't agree with it but they're all big boys and know what the score is.
Congress definitely needs to stay out of this...they have messed up enough stuff already. I do live in Louisiana and yep....still a Saints fan but extremely dissapointed. ...In my opinion Sean Payton should be not only be suspended but fired and any player involved in this should be released permanently from the team...those players are probably "marked" anyway....This is really disgusting and will hurt the team for years to come....No doubt the announcers want let this pass over any time soon either....Do believe that Brees does have a contract but likely waiting for this to cool a little for the announcement. ... Good article Shawn
Wow you want to tell me that unsportsmanlike conduct is rife in the NFL, it seems a pity that this type of thing is spoiling sport for all of us. Games of cricket being thrown for financial gain, F1 not even immune to the shenanigans, is the money involved such that sport is no longer about playing the game? What a pity.
