Crawl Space Incapsulation

What is Crawl space incapsulation? Crawlspace encapsulation is the act of trying to hold vapor or water under a slab or antimicrobial material.

One of the problems the comes with just rolling out plastic to encapsulate your crawlspace is that it does not channel water toward the sump pumps. It just lays on top of the earth and holds any vapors from escaping if you ever pull up the vapor barrier you will realize that it is very muddy damp musty and molding underneath it.

Most commonly when we get into crawlspaces we realized that there has been no drainage no gravel no place for the water to collect and be ejected from the space, this is a very big problem because your crawlspace will be holding moisture. And that moisture will be collecting on your floor joists your foundation walls and underneath the cheap plastic that has been laid.

The problem with having all of this moisture under your home is this the moisture will collect on your floor joists and rot them out prematurely which affects the structural integrity of your home. Or a rule create excessive amounts of mold making it hard to breathe in the upper levels of your house if you have asthma or any other breathing condition.

The only true way to get rid of the moisture problem underneath your home is to put down a good antimicrobial vapor barrier placed four-inch drainage around the perimeter with plenty of stone tilting toward a sump pump, and pouring a three to four-inch thick slush coat under your house. This will hold down the smell, the mold, the mildew, and the unwanted pests that come along with having a wet crawlspace.

It is not necessary to pour a slab in your crawlspace that has the capability of being able to hold a car. This is not a structural slab. This lab is only meant to help hold down the water and moisture coming up from the ground. If you have different plans for this slab then source installer would need to add reinforcing and make the concrete the proper size and PSI that is recommended by city code in your area.

It is our true opinion that if a crawlspace needs to be encapsulated it also needs concrete poured over the floor just laying plastic is only doing half the job. Also putting a slush coat over the top of your basement floor will also help hold out radon and many other soil gases that your body is not intended on breathing. Which is one of the many benefits of having a poured concrete floor in your crawlspace.
