People anyways asks me when I am out giving estimates, if I keep letting this water come in my house what harm can it really do? It runs toward the drain and its really not that big of a deal is it? Why should I make the investment? There are a few simple reasons why you should correct the problem. For one water intrusion is one of the first signs of foundation failure. Yes that is true. When water come into your your house from below or threw walls it cuts what we call in the business as clay veins. In some cases it can take the dirt away that your house is sitting on, so the nice stable dirt that your home was sitting on can be getting washed away down the drains. That is in a very extreme cases. If you have dirt coming in with the water action needs to be taken as soon as possible. Second is the presents of bugs, that is right bugs. Many insects thrive in moist and wet environments. Such as termite, water bugs, and spiders. These critter will eventually find there ways into the main living areas and make nests that will be very hard to get rid of after they have found there way into your home it becomes a breading ground for such pests. Indoor air quality, in damp and dark environments mold spores love this conditions. This can effect the air we breath to the food we eat. When I say food I am writing about the fruit that we keep on our counters such as fruits and veggies.
When the mold spores get into the walls you could be living next to them and not even knowing it. It effects people with asthma and other breathing problem, because mold will continue to grow if the conditions are favorable for them to thrive in. You could end up with wall full of black mold. What we are letting into our home is ground water. The water that we have sprayed our weed killer into, water from fields that farms have sprayed there pesticides into, water that has came from acid ran from smoke stacks from the many industries that have let off toxins for years into the ground and air.
Letting water coming into your house is more serious than people think it is. For safety sake and for our own well being we should help ourselves live long healthy lives.
That is my answer why I tell people basement waterproofing is important.
