One of the greatest sources of stress in life is unnecessary mixing of 'business' and 'personal'. Human relationships can be twin-sided, and most often are, so it's important to distinct which side of it belongs to business, and which belongs to friendship. Sometimes we make great friends through work, and at other times, we loose them.
This article is here to help you understand why it's important to see both sides of relationships, and how to prevent bad things evolving from misunderstanding where they belong.
There are countless opportunity on a workplace to damage relationships, mostly because of different expectations, different potentials and different views between co-workers, or even more likely, between an employee and boss. You can make several things to protect yourself in such situations;
Be an expert in your field and let that be known
You won't be asked questions from everyone, about the quality of your work, if you become a total expert in your workfield. The topic of business should be your domain - you have to know the most about, work in it with the most efficiency and be self-confident about it. Unless you do so, you'll start to experience unpleasant questions and rebukes. That's the beginning of issues in business side of relationships people tend to carry over to personal.
Have one face
This is quite simple to tell, but it can get difficult to actually be a person who can sincerely tell about the problem, or hold tongue when there's momental benefit of speaking out. There's consequence for everything, but the one for manipulating everyone at work is that they'll most likely avoid you in personal life.
Accept full responsibility
Don't be late. Don't fall asleep. Don't promise without doing. Do to meet expectations, but never do below them. When they tell your name, it should be felt that they mean 'confidence' within it. This will reduce stress and bring relationships up.
Solve problems aside
In work environment, especially team environment, everyone has some problems. The worst thing is - everyone speaks about them when they're not in front of person with whom they're having them, and they're silent when they're in their peresence. Don't be one of those guys - be the other ways around. Don't point out all the issues you're having with someone, simply because those issues are between you two. Solve them aside, and do it in friendly, benefit oriented manner.
Of course, there are plenty more advices to give on this topic of stress relief and relationship improvement, but these are few you can implement often. Situations always turn out better when you implement these advices, but it takes to be strong to do so.
