All About Cordless String Trimmers

How good are cordless electric string trimmers really? Many people are attracted to the cordless string models because they are light weight and easy to handle because their motor isn't as powerful as a gas weed cutter. Before you buy a cordless electric string trimmer make sure you are buying it for the right type of yard. Buying the right string trimmer for your property will save you money in the future. Never try and get away with using an electric string trimmer for large jobs. You will kill the motor in just a few cuttings and it won't be worth your time or effort.

Many people buy cordless electric grass trimmers to do small jobs close to their house. Most units are compact and easy to store. Everyone knows if you are going to cut along a fence or thick brush you will need a heavy duty commercial string trimmer. You will want to get an estimate of how long it will take you to do these small jobs before choosing a model. Because cordless trimmers use batteries your trimming time is limited to the amount of charge on your battery. Some units have detachable batteries in which case it is possible to switch batteries after the first has worn out. Take note of recharge time as well. Some of these batteries will take 7-8 hours to charge but only last about 30 minutes.

Most of the electric weed eaters now days come with a built in edger attachment. You should keep in mind that edging a driveway is going to use much more battery power than say trimming the grass near your flower beds. If you plan on using your trimmer for edging work you might want to consider doing this work on a different day or buying another battery for this work as well as your trimming work.

There are several big names in the weed eater industry now but few have had the guts to try their hand at the cordless electric trimmer market. The reason is because for so long the battery technology just wasn't that good and so these trimmers have taken a bad wrap. I have tried many electric string trimmers ranging from Black & Decker to the Worx GT but I would have to say that the best string trimmer reviews come from the Greenworks electric trimmer. The battery life in use as well as after several uses seems to be the best.
