Medicinal Uses Of Mushrooms

Most of the medicinal extracts from mushrooms are polysaccharides. Although these differ in composition, they may have one thing in common and that is they all strenghten the immune system with no side effects.

Ganoderma lucidium is also called the Monkey seat mushroom. An extract from the mycelium of this mushroom will decrease the excitement of the nervous system, increases the resistance of mice for oxygen deprivation etc. Heals a lot of diseases including neurasthenia , chronic bronchitis, and coronary heart disease. Most patients feel better and will have a better appetite after taking Ganoderma pills. Their resistance against fever and common cold increases. An injection of the body with the spore powder is effective in curing progressive malnutrition of the muscles and muscular atrophy.

Agaricus spp is the common botton mushroom. This mushroom lowers the blood pressure and increases lactation in breast feeding mothers. It also alleviates indigestion.

Pleurotus spp commonly called the oyster mushroom is also one of the most common mushrooms cultivated in the tropics it's noted to strenghten the circulatory system and to also balance cholesterol , thus fortifying the blood. Pleurotus ostreatus prevents high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases,and menopause syndrome.

The volvariella spp also popular in the tropics promotes resistance against infectious diseases, accelerates healing of wounds and reduces blood cholesterol.

Pleurotus tuberregium is used in addition to water melon seeds in treating convulsions and underweight in children. It cures hypertension, chest and heart pains if grinded and put in hot water and sipped. For the healing of gout, soak the powder with some water and smear around areas of pain.

Lentinula edodes also called the shiitake mushroom has a polysaccharide which has immunological strenghtening properties. Can heal viral hepatitis, and various diseases caused by low immunological resistance. It also protects the liver and used in conjunction with chemotherapy for tumors. The side effects is that, the co-agulation of the blood may decrease, therefore persons suffering from heamorrhage should take care.

Tremella spp also called the white jelly fungus is mainly eaten by the chinese. Its effectively used against coughing, phelgms, asthma and patients suffering from bronchitis. This mushroom is used for treating irregular menstruation, strenghtens semen and nourishes the brain.

All these are very great mushroom that need to be considered when you start growing your own mushrooms.

Warning! The mushroom Psilocybe spp is noted for its hallucinogenic effects on people. People claim to visit the spiritual world after taking this mushroom. It is illegal to grow this mushroom since it has been realized to have poisonous effects on the body. This mushroom is also called the magic mushroom. All these mushrooms have been known to improve performance, be it for the office worker, the sports person or the labor person.
