There are probably lots of content written on secrets of success and goal setting. So why am I writing another article on the same subject?
I have a couple of reasons to do so, and no you probably not going to learn anything major that you already do not know. So to answer my question I am writing this article because:
- I am practicing my article writing skills, so I chose this subject.
- I love anything that is related to self development.
- I probably need to still master the goal setting process. It is said that you learn best when you teach others. So I am hoping that I would improve my goal setting process by writing about it.
So now that you know the reason why I am writing lets get into the goal setting process. The following points are extremely important when setting goals. If you do not master this you will probably not achieve your goals:
- Be clear about what you want. Not perhaps, or I may. Just decide in detail what you want.
- Decide by when you want your goals. It needs to be a specific date. If possible say it with the day of the month, like the 12th of June. If not just say by the end of June.
- State your goal in the present tense as if you have already achieved it. For example I weigh 50 kilos. Do not say I will lose 50 kilos. Your subconscious mind does not distinguish between past, present and future. So when you say I weigh 50 kilos, your subconscious mind believes that you are already 5o kilos.
- Your goals need to be a positive statement. I weight 50 kilos is a positive, but saying I do not weigh 70 kilos is a negative the subconscious mind does not distinguish between positive and negative.
Once you have your goal then:
- Say your goal aloud: Say your goal aloud every day at least once, but preferably twice.
- Write your goal. Write your goal at least once but preferably twice. You could write it whilst you repeat them in loud voice.
- Visualize your goal. See your goal at least once but preferably twice a day. When I say see it, visualize it as if you have already achieved it.
- Hear your goal. When you say the goal aloud you can hear your goal as if you have achieved it. Hearing your goal also means that when you visualize it you need to hear the voices, what you are saying in your visualization. What other people are saying to you during the visualization?
- Feel your goal: When you say it, write it, see it and hear it you must feel the goal. Feel like if you have achieved the goal. You lost 20 kilos; you are feeling great, happy and proud of yourself. What do you feel when people look at you? What do you feel when you try new clothes, or when you can wear a bikini?
- Break your goal in milestones.
- Set an action plan.
- Take action. You can visualize your goals, write them and say them aloud, but if you do not take action they will not become reality.
Once you have you achieved your goal then:
• Set new goals.
• Repeat the goal setting process at regular intervals, weekly, monthly, yearly.
• Always revise your goals. Do not be afraid of changing them. You are allowed to change them as you go.
I hope you enjoy the reading. I want to leave you with another secret of success: Find someone that has already done what you want to do and learn from them. If you really want to be successful there are more secrets of success for you.
Goals are set and of course, need to be revised if they are not targeted the way it must be. I think the first thing that entails more understanding (van be hard sometimes :), is how to confirm what you really want. You're right that goals are must be set in the present. Thanks for this, love it!
