The ability to control the mind and metal toughness are the two main factors for professional Golf players. These factors play a vital role in game day preparation and also during the course of play. It is to be noted that most of the Golf players stay in touch with their Golf sport psychologists continuously throughout the season.

So, why do people think that Golf is mental? Do you know that there are so many golfers who can perform brilliantly on the practice tee but find it extremely hard to manage the thoughts that arise when the actual play is in order? Although, to be able to swing properly and a good understanding of course management are extremely vital, but this is only half the story. To be a good golfer you have to maintain an emotional equilibrium on the course. The best golfers in the world have learned to channel their energy productively, and that is what separates them from the other players. Several researchers have found that aspects like anxiety, anger, negative approach and fear of embarrassment have caused high states of emotional arousal among the players. When a player is in such an emotional state, their brain starts to secrete neurotransmitters in an undesirable amount. These substances such as nor-epinephrine can lead to a hormonal release of adrenaline, which triggers various physiological changes in the body like an increase in blood pressure and heart rate. Other physiological changes include an increase in blood lactate levels, which creates muscle tension. This tension in muscles affects the player drastically, and that ultimately affects the swing. Therefore, most of the researchers believe that 90% of the Golf game is controlled by the mind. Now, since Golf is mental, the best known secret to this game is an effective management of thoughts so that players can save themselves from the disappointment and frustration involved in Golf.

In sports, it is very important for players to contain good and positive thoughts because it is the brain which creates images in the mind, and these images provide the guidance to the body. That is the reason why we say golf is mental game. If you want to gain sports excellence, then it is crucial for you to understand that psychological factors play a vital role in achieving success because the body always follows the mind.

Golf is mental, and so if you want to be a world class golfer, then you need to be your own mental coach. Try to contain positive thoughts in your mind at all times. If you don’t recognize failure then there will be no failure. There is something magnificent about your game and there is no one who can understand that better than you. Now all you need to do is reduce the stress levels and learn to master your mind. Keep your mind under your control before and during the play. If you do that there is nothing stopping you from taking your game to new heights within a short span of time.
