A Review on Golf Courses In Oregon

My experience with golfing is growing and improving everyday. Thought it would be helpful to give a review on golf courses in Oregon. There are numerous courses in the State of Oregon for every level of golfer. I have not been able to visit/play on every course that Oregon has, but the ones in Portland, Newport and Central Oregon are locations I have visited and wish to review at this time. So let us begin!

Disclaimer: These are my thoughts on each course that I have golfed on. Having fun while I play and being a novice in this sport will influence how each course is reviewed.

Agate Beach Golf Course, Newport: This is the first course that I began golfing on. We lived in Newport and spent many weekends on the Agate Beach Golf Course. My lessons were all self taught and it showed. Newport being a small community gave us the opportunity to get on the course without a reserved tee time. This was in 1972 before the Fred Meyer, Walmart and fast food restaurants came into town. The pace was comfortable and non intimidating. For a newbie the course is relatively flat, longest fairway for men and women is 463, par 5. The pro shop and restaurant have a friendly atmosphere, same owners have operated the course since 1960. It was a great introduction for learning how to play golf. Lots of fun and crazy moments!

Big Meadow Golf Course, Black Butte Ranch, Bend: This is a beautiful area and the 2 courses offer great views of the Cascade Mountains. The skill level on these courses is for the more experienced player. My performance was definitely challenged, passed on keeping score and the sand traps trapped me numerous times. The pace of the game is faster and depending on how closely they schedule the tee times, be prepared to play ready golf.

Colwood National Golf Club, Portland: Due to a relocation and a period of self improvement, Portland became my new home. Now became the challenge of finding a golf course that fit my level of the game. Colwood offers a great program during the summer for women's golf lessons. I began the lessons, made some good friends and now golf every Friday. The back of the course is next to the Portland Airport, there are trees, ponds and a creek you play over on hole 4 (have lost many balls there). Occasionally you will see rabbits, squirrels and coyotes. I love playing golf at Colwood! There is a possibility the golf course will be converted into a park with part of the land to be for industrial use. If true, it will be greatly missed.

Lost Tracks Golf Club, Bend: During a trip to Bend I had the opportunity to golf at Lost Tracks. What a great time. The course is beautiful, unique and well maintained. Lost way too many balls and wasn't quite ready for playing advanced golf (above my skill level), but I would definitely play there again.

This is just a short list of the many golf courses I have had the pleasure to play at. There has been numerous hours spent laughing, angry or frustrated at these courses, but I still love the game!

If you have any questions about this, simply leave them below and I will be sure to get back to you within 24 hrs. (often times much quicker)
