Consistent Golf Game - How To Achieve Consistency

Playing the game of golf requires skill and concentration. But consistency throughout your game is a major factor in shooting low scores more often. When i play a round of golf i always make sure i check and act on the following to make sure i play to the best of my ability and play more consistent golf.

Playing the same golf ball

The right golf ball counts in a round of golf. Dont go choosing one that will save you a few bucks, or play with golf balls that you have found in the bush somewhere. Doing this will not keep your game consistent. I play with a Callaway HX Tour ball in which gives me a little more control over my shots. I used to use the infamous Titleist Pro V until i tried the HX. Its a great golf ball in which i always use when i play.

Fitted golf clubs

I know that this does not have to be checked as you only need to be fitted the once, but it is so important to your game to have your golf clubs fitted to your game. It makes such a big difference and gives you so much more consistency than playing with clubs that are too long or too short. My golf clubs are made to be a fraction longer for me. This gives me a little more distance as i am quiet short ( just over 5 foot tall). Having your golf clubs fitted will give your golf swing more consistency and make your ball striking alot more consistent as well.

Having a routine for every round

This is so important to have when playing golf. Whether it be your practice just before a round, or your routine before every shot played. Having a set routine will, in the long run, improve your consistency greatly. An example of this is what i do when i play a round of golf. Before the round starts, i will go to the nets, or driving range whichever is available at your course, and will spend around 20 minutes hitting balls. I ususally focus on my long and mid irons first and then hit a few with my driver and woods. Then i head to the green and will putt for around 15 minutes and then chip for the same amount of time. Then just before my round starts i go back to the nets or driving range and will hit around 15 balls with my mid and longer irons. I do this because i play the most shots with these clubs. Also before every shot during my round, i will address the ball, visualise my shot, then step back right behind my ball and take a couple of practice swings while visualising the shot i want to hit again. Finally i will take my golf swing in which will hopefully turn out like i have visualised. This is not as hard as it sounds in writing, and doing all this is actually quiet easy after you do it for long enough. This is what i do before every round and even though i do not play as much as i used to, its still something i follow when i do play.

Playing with the right mindset

Playing this game is hard enough, so why make it harder by starting your round after a big night out, or after not sleeping the night before. Having the right mindset for this game will keep you focus on your whole round. I have played golf hungover before and by the back nine, i didnt want to be on the course. My mind was not there at all and all i wanted to do was go home and it resulted in me playing some horrid golf shots. My golf swing just didnt feel right. So when you are playing a round of golf, be sure to have your 8 hours of sleep the night before, and dont go out drinking all night. Drinking plenty of fluids and eating right will keep your mind and body focused, leading to more consistent golf.

Playing golf is a hard game, but having consistency in your game will lead to lower scores. You need to be using the same golf ball every round, have rightly fitted golf clubs, play with a routine on the golf course and last of all you need to be in the right mindset. Following these tips will greatly improve your game and you will enjoy playing as you are
