Golf Club Regripping: Why Should I Re-grip My Golf Clubs

Every dedicated golfer knows that regripping their golf clubs is a vital part of owning golf clubs. Why a golfer needs to regrip his or her clubs is a good question.

One of the main reasons to regrip is simply to play a better game. When the grips are fresh you don't have to hold on to the club as tightly because there is plenty of traction between your hand and the club. Your body is less tense and your swing improves tremendously when you can hold the club with more ease. Golfers will all agree that their handicap improves when they regrip their golf clubs.

The frequency in which you regrip your golf clubs will depend on the amount of time you spend on the golf course and what area of the world the course is located. Golfers who play often in hot, humid locations have to replace their grips a couple of times a year because of the damage that extreme temperatures, body sweat and dirt do to the grips on their clubs. If you tend to leave your clubs in your car rather than store them in a temperature controlled area, then your doing even further damage. If the time has come to consider regripping your golf clubs, then you probably need a few pointers on how to do the job properly and affordably. Although the idea of replacing your grips may seem like something a pro should take on, it's really not that hard to figure out as long as you have a couple of common tools and a few tips.

So, if you're still asking yourself 'why regrip my golf clubs?' consider this regripping your golf clubs yourself saves time because you don't have to wait for the pro shop to get to your clubs. These guys are busy and have steady work regripping other people's clubs. You can take a couple of hours on a week night and have the job done and not miss three or more days of golf play while you wait on someone else. Oh, and don't forget the fact that you will save a nice chunk of change by doing it yourself.

I've heard golfers who have obviously never regripped their own clubs say that they don't have the tools to do something like that. What? Regripping does not take expensive or technical tools whatsoever. Unless you have zero common tools in your garage or basement, then you probably already have most of what's required. You're going to need a utility knife, odor free paint thinner (if you want to invest in golf grip solvent, then do so,) your new grips of course, grip tape, something to wipe with like an old dish towel, an ipod with tunes (that's just for your own benefit.)

You will likely want to have a good guide to help take you step by step through the process of regripping your own golf clubs. It will help give you the confidence to tackle this task on your own.

The basic reasons to regrip golf clubs are really quite straight forward. You're going to play a better golf game, you'll save money and time and will be learning a new skill. Don't be afraid to take on the challenge of improving your game with new golf grips.
