If you watch the Golf Channel they have an entire show called Golf Fitness Academy. I think it's great because it is exposing to all golfers the importance of improving golf specific strength and flexibility to play better golf and eliminate pain from the game.

I've always said, your physical limitations will dictate how well you swing the club and hit the ball. If you are tight (inflexible); or weak, you will have a hard time trying to swing a club at up to 80+ mph with good technique and while maintain your balance.

Most golfers do not belong to a fitness club, so they say they can't do a golf fitness program, but that is not true. With just a few pieces of inexpensive equipment, and about 80 square feet of space. You don't need fancy, expensive home fitness equipment. All you need is a pair of dumbbells; an exercise ball; and some resistance tubing and you're good to go.

In fact, you don't even need an extra room in your house. I have clients I work with in their living rooms, bedrooms, den and home office with no problem at all. And because the equipment is easily portable, you can put it in a closet when you're done, so it doesn't affect your daily living.

These days people are putting more hours in at work; they are commuting; they have families, etc. This makes time a valuble commodity, so being smart with how you budget your time, can allow you the luxury to get all your things done and still work on your golf fitness.

If you need help getting started you can hire a golf trainer to come to your home and set you up on a program and show you exactly how it should be done, so you know you are doing it safely, and that it is specific to your fitness needs, as well as golf goals.

For example golf fitness in Scottsdale is really becoming popular, with most of the private golf clubs hiring golf specific trainers to work with their members. The average age of a country club member is typically in the 60's and this golf demographic needs fitness the most as they have seen their fitness levels decline rapidly in the last few years.

These golfers have the time, and desire to play better golf and enjoy it in their later years, so they want to do whatever they can to see improvement. Unfortunately, many older golfers don't belong to a private golf club, or a fitness club, so doing something in their home is a viable option.

Most golfers would rather spend their time playing or practicing, and feel they do not have any extra time to exercise. I hear lots of excuses, and when I tell them about in home golf fitness they perk up and want to know more. As I mentioned above, the equipment needed is approximately $80, and you can get online golf fitness programs for about the same cost as one golf lesson.

Another added benefit regarding fitness in the home for golfers is the convenience. No showering, getting dressed, and driving to a fitness club. Wake up, put on some exercise clothes and get started. This will save many hours per week, and can be done in a few minutes per day.

This type of program can fit into any golfers schedule. If at this point they still make excuses, then I wish them well with their future golf performance.
