Golf Rules For Beginners

Let us face it golf can be an intimidating game when you first start to get involved with the game. Among many other things, that you’re not aware of is the terminology they use; you would think that you are on another planet.

Words like birdie, bogey, and eagle you might think that you’re on some kind of bird watch or something. Then the rules are another part of the game you need to learn, perhaps not all of them at the beginning but the main rules.

Golf slang will be for another time, a birdie is a one stroke below par, a bogey is one over par and an eagle is two under par, that is it for golf slang, let us take a look at some of the rules you should be getting to know.

• When Teeing off you must be between the markers, do not stand in front of them and no more than two clubs lengths behind

• If your ball falls off the tee before you swing, say from wind or for whatever reason, you will not be given a point for this

• Now if you miss the ball after you tried to hit the ball, that will cost you a stroke, , even if no one sees you it is still a stroke, no cheating now, for any reason the ball just falls off the tee after you have taken a swing it will cost you a stroke

• You will not be able to move or break or take out any vegetation to give yourself a better ball position, you may move lose objects such as grass or leaves, and stones natural lose things that will be in the way of your shot

• Do not hit or move another players ball, in certain instances you may be given two points for hitting another ball that is not yours, if is not your ball do not touch it, pretty simple right, plus some folks get really mad

• When you have to drop the ball, you need to face the hole, stand up straight and drop the ball behind your shoulder, somewhat a weird thing, rules are rules

• If you are looking for a ball in the rough or anywhere else for that matter, wave players behind you through as not to hold them up

• For most obstructions that you cannot get to the ball usually one club length away but not toward the hole

These rules should get you playing without giving everybody around you reason to get you thrown of the course. Yes some people some courses, a little patience goes a long way I say but others have no tolerance for golfers that do not know the rule, beginner or not.

If you find yourself in a difficult position and not quite sure just ask someone in your party they will be more than happy to point out the rules you have not learned yet. Golfers can really be fussy on the rules, you will see, good luck on the course.
