How to Golf - Not Just for the Pros

There are a lot of misconceptions out there about golf. Most of these have some truth but are overall false. The first one is that golf is a hard sport to play. This is false. How to play golf is very simple. The first thing you need to learn is the scoring system; every time you go to hit the ball it is called a stroke. The person with the least amount of strokes at the end is the winner. The recommended amount of strokes for a hole is called par; that is what you are aiming for.

Now before you get out on the course there are some basic things you need to take care of before getting out to the course.

The first is you are going to want to get yourself a set of golf clubs. The maximum number of clubs you can have in your bag is 13. Clubs don’t have to be new there are some really good older models, and to be honest while clubs do make a difference the persons skill has a lot more to do with how good they play. A lot of people get caught up with having shiny, new clubs that say they hit the furthest, the truth is this is a bunch of hype made up by the companies. Newer clubs are designed differently from the ones that are really old though so don’t go too far back in time when getting them.

The next thing you need to take care of before going to the course is to learn the basics of a good golf swing. Your swing is one of the most important factors of the game. You could have golf clubs that cost thousands of dollars but if your swing sucks someone who bought clubs at a garage sale will do way better then you.

A golf swing has 3 different parts. The back swing is the first part, and also the slowest. During this part of the swing you slowly bring your club back behind you, always have one of your arms locked when you are doing this. The next part is where you swing your arm down and go to hit the ball. This part is pretty simple but there are several techniques to help improve accuracy and distance. The last and arguably most important is the follow through. You can’t just stop when the club hits the ball, you have to keep going and bring the club around in front of you. Doing this helps to guide the ball on its path.

Every one of these factors help to make you into a great golfer, it’s a game that you don’t have to be in great shape to play and even a complete beginner can go and have a fun time out on the course. You don’t have to play competitively, but if you are make sure you have a great swing, it means the difference between winning and losing.
