How To Prepare For A Round Of Golf
Join 1000's of Authors at StreetArticles Today!

Well how to prepare for a round of golf may seem a strange title but I can assure you there are many ways that people will go about this, some are recognised ways and others are not what one would recommend. You may be familiar with some of the ways I am going to mention and you will probably chuckle to yourself as you will probably have done it yourself.

Now a round of golf is supposed to be enjoyable, relaxing to a certain degree, a challenge and fun, now the best preparation for a round of golf to meet the above mentioned benefits would be to make sure you get to the course approximately 45 minutes before your start time. This will give you ample to relax, go to the range hit a few balls with all your clubs and finish off with some chipping and putting prior to the first Tee shot.

Now preparation is key, so they say, however with a round of golf it really does have a lot to do with your mental preparation. I know this from experience I have played many a round of golf where I had no expectations of what to expect as I had been invited at the last-minute to play. With this in mind I was just happy to be there, no real warm up apart from a few stretches and off I went, as the round progressed I started to realise I was playing and scoring quite well. So if you are invited at the last-minute the best preparation for your round of golf is to "have no expectations" and you may well surprise yourself.

Now to the round of golf that is important to you and you are looking to score a good round as it could be a tournament or handicap qualifying event. With this round you really need to make sure the days leading up to the event are all under control within the work and social environments, this will help you have no last-minute unexpected meetings or outings that could affect your preparation. Maybe a little practice at the range at least 2 times during the week but not necessarily the day before, not too much anyway. You need to be keen but comfortable about yourself and your game, expectations of a good round for sure, as any thoughts of the bad shots or the odd weakness in your game will result in potentially having a bad shot during the round. What you score and how you fair, you just have to accept, as you did all you could with your preparation and you will learn from the experience for the next big event.

How many times have you prepared for the round of golf by having the regular Friday/Saturday night out with the boys! Hung over, feeling really rough but you know you must not let your playing partners down by being a "no-show" plus they will be ribbing you for days if you don't play! Well there is no real preparation for this round you may as well right the golf off as it will not be pretty BUT sometimes these rounds of golf can surprise you, so very much like the last-minute invitation, don't have any expectations (it's unlikely you will!) and enjoy the company and the odd good shots, chips and putts.

So there you have it, how to prepare for a round of golf, the right way and the wrong way, well unless you are a professional, who will have a special routine including warm up exercises etc., the most important preparation for the average golfer is to make sure your body is warmed up so you do not injure yourself if you over swing or twist your body accidentally when the muscles are not ready for it. So make sure you do a few stretches, hold 2 clubs and swing them slowly, the added weight of the second club will help warm up the muscles and complete some other general stretching too.
