Mcilroy Has Short Ride at Number One

Round four at the Transitions Championship in Palm Harbour, Florida sees a jam up leading to the end of the day all at -13. A playoff round is the only way to un-jam this mess and let them all sort it out that way.

The final outlook was looking a lot like a six-way tie for first and an exciting playoff round just ahead. Turned out Ernie Els bogeyed the 17th hole and finishing with a missed 4 foot putt on the 18th hole and missing the birdie on the 16th Ernie fell out of playoff contention by one stroke, tough to take.

Ken Duke made the five way, now into a four way playoff round, with a missed putt on the 17th giving him a bogey, where it should have been a birdie as the ball made its way around the cup and out, another tough one to take, that s golf.

The four man playoff round is made up of, Luke Donald, Robert Garrigus, Sang-Moo Bay, and Jim Furyk. The hole was a par 4 Luke hits his first shot into the rough, then makes a great shot out 157 yards he lands the ball about 6 feet away from the hole. Gets his birdie and wins with a one under par in the playoff round.

Rory McIlroy loses and doesn’t even play he must just hate that. Rory had a brief two weeks as number one in the world as Luke takes back what was once his. Rory as the champion he is twittered Luke with his congratulations on his victory. Donald mentioned that this was more about the trophy not the ranking.

The march to the Masters at Augusta is near, you can already smell the cooks getting ready and the beer trucks are rolling in. Does Ernie get the chance to play at the Masters, not likely, unless he comes off with a win next week at Bay Hill? Missing his chance this weekend Els with tying fifth place with a 272 sets Ernie back to 60 or so on the world stage, a ranking of 50 is needed to be invited to the Masters.

Therefore, the stage is set for some very good golf in the next few weeks coming to the Masters and of course the masters itself. Luke will go into the Masters as number one in the world as either two men are playing again until Augusta. This assures Luke will remain on top for another couple of weeks for sure, looks good on his resume.

With the talent at the top this year and so much to win and lose almost every game how can this be anything but exciting golf. It is only March and the number one place has changed hand not once but twice so far. How many times this year, will the masters change this, or does Luke start his reign all over again.

The excitement grows; I know I will be watching what is going on in the next couple of weeks leading up to Augusta.

Does anyone else step up and take first slide up the ranks with a big win Tiger oh maybe; crazy things are going to happen, you bet.

I think after what Tiger did this last weekend at The Bay Hill Invitational, this could be a fantastic showdown with Rory and Tiger. I'm very excited to watch The Masters this year.

Tiger is now back in swing with his victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, or is it just a win, any which way the Masters will be a great line up, and compettion should be stiff, number one is up for grabs, it should be great and exciting golf. I would like to see number one change hands through out the year, keeps the excitement and the quality of golf at its best...thats my take.... Tim
