What Can We Learn From Henrik Stenson PGA Tour Fedex Cup / Race To Dubai Winner?

I was delighted to see Henrik Stenson carry on his excellent form in his most recent victory in Dubai, which secured the European Tour Order of Merit alongside his brilliant win in the FedEx Cup, something that no other golfer has achieved until now. There surely isn't a more inform player in the world right now, the question is how has he got to this level of success?

Mental Toughness

Henrik Stenson has been through two major slumps over the course of his career, however he has shown great determination and character to bounce back to have a brilliant season in 2013. The mental toughness to bounce back to arguably to be the best player in world golf at the moment is something we can all learn from. To put this simply NEVER GIVE UP!

Using The Driver

Stenson's caddie has talked about Henrik's reluctance use his driver over the past couple of years. However this all changed back in August 2013 when he started bombing it down the middle with the big stick, matching his excellent iron play. Every player has clubs they aren't as happy using, however if you are able to overcome the fear of using a particular club it will only help improve your all round game.

Crisp Iron Shots

Studying Stenson's swing it's clear that he is able to produce beautifully struck iron shots on a regular basis. One aspect that Henrik constantly mentions as a key component of his swing is a strong left side. What is meant by this is as he descends to the point of hitting the ball, you can see that his left shoulder, arm and hand are in a straight line. This promotes a consistent strike into the ball, definitely something worth trying next time you hit the practice range.

Excellent Putting

After his success this year in winning numerous tournaments there is no doubt Stenson can putt under pressure. Analysing his putting stroke, you can see that the putter face remains square on a consistence basis, helping to regularly roll the ball on a good line to the hole. Henrik has been using a particular training aid to help his putting, I have conducted a review of this particular product here.

In conclusion, 2013 has been a brilliant year for Henrik Stenson, There is much to admire about not only his golfing talent but also his mental approach to the game. His next step is to be able to win a major, which if he is able to replicate his form over the past 12 months I certainly won't be betting against him.
