5 Ways to Make Your Home And Household More Eco - friendly

It's nice that in our busy times more and more people get interested in green living. No matter the reason it is definitely a good thing. If you are a "Go Green" fan or even just supporter of the idea here are several tips for areas in every home that can be improved. The more eco-friendly, the better.

1. Insulation and Furniture

Insulation does not only make your home more energy-efficient, but it also makes it in an eco-friendly way. There are different types of insulation and you can find quality products made from recycled or natural materials. Furthermore, if you use one of these types of insulation when its life comes to an end and you need to remove or replace it, the waste won't be a pollutant. With the furniture is not much different. Well, there is no couch or carpet that can save energy but the materials and the way furniture is made matters. The idea is not to replace all your belongings but if you are moving in a new home it would be good idea to do some research. There are furniture makers who use non-toxic natural glues, organic fabrics, latex foam, wool batting and all furniture is made of sustainable woods. Finding a “green” furniture maker is one more point in your to do list list.

2. Paints

All interior walls in the house are covered with paints. Keep in mind that in most paints and stains can be found harmful chemicals. And under "harmful" I mean harmful not only for the environment but also for you, your kids and your pets. However, on the market can be found paints low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Prices vary, but spending several dollars more in the name of safety is worthy.

3. Appliances

It's for the best if all your home appliances dishwasher, refrigerator, air-conditioner, etc., met the energy efficiency standards and to had the highest possible rating on that point. If you have doubts or you don't know anything about your appliances' parameters, you can check the product's energy efficiency levels here. Not lining in Australia - no worries. You can make similar check in almost every county around the world. Just find the equivalent of this site for the country you live in. Or you can research models by manufacturer. The other thing you can do is use low energy efficient appliances rarely or only when absolutely needed for example: dryers are horribly inefficient and can be used on the lowest heat or air setting possible.

4. Bathroom fixtures

A low-flow toilet, an aerating shower head, a recirculating water pump these are only few things you can use in your bathroom to reduce water waste. The good news is that such eco-friendly fixtures don't cause any inconveniences for the household. The water pump delivers hot water instantly, with no water loss and no waiting. With the aerating shower head you use less water but the pressure stays the same. In the end it's quite likely that you'll get back what you've spent in reduced water bills. And you can be sure this is one of the ways to help nature. Water is a significant part of the environment and the problems with water waste and water pollution must not be ignored.

5. Rubbish

No matter how eco-friendly a house is, every household produce a lot of rubbish, which is another major issue. It's certainly a challenge, but rubbish itself can also be turned more eco-friendly. For example, you can use composting pile to collect all organic food scraps. The produced rich compost can be used in the garden on all plants and trees. Don't forget recycling. Maybe 2/3 of the non-organic junk can be recycled.Last but not least, if you have a pile of rubbish containing non-recyclable materials (such as after builders waste, spring cleaning unused junk or types of trash) don't try to handle it yourself. There are a lot of companies specialising in waste removal that can do the job for you and you'll be sure that the rubbish is treated the proper way and transported to the proper place.
