Many parents these days are deciding to raise an organic "green" baby. Parents are looking for not only what is best for baby and its health but what is also best for the environment. The first decision many times is what kind of diaper to use with their newborn baby. There are many arguments when it comes to cloth diapers or disposable diapers. Parent's have a lot to consider when deciding on which diaper to use for their precious baby.
This generation of cloth diapers is not the same cloth diapers our parents used! Cloth diapers have come a long way. The most popular cloth diapers now have an outer shell with a cloth insert. The insert can be made of cotton, bamboo, and organic materials. There are a number of companies making these type diapers (bumGenius, Fuzzi Bunz, and gdiapers just to name a few). Some of the diapers come as all-in-one, where the inserts are already in and you wear and wash without having to take them apart. Others have snaps on the front, while others have velcro. Parents also have an option when it comes to cloth diaper inserts. Not all inserts are reusable. There are inserts that can be flushed (gdiapers, green mountain and Kushies just to name a few) while others can simply be tossed in the trash can.
If washing, drying and stuffing cloth diapers seems like too much work or just not interesting for parents there are greener options when it comes to disposable diapers. It is important for parents to do their own research when it comes to choosing disposable diapers. There are many chemicals is disposable diapers that is harmful to baby's skin and health. There are companies out there that produce disposable diapers without using chemicals in their products. A few of these are Nature Babycare, Tushies, Seventh Generation and gDiapers.
In conclusion, parents have a ton of options when it comes to diapering their newborn baby. Just like researching baby names, the best cribs and baby products, parents need to take the time to research diaper options as well. Talking to other parents and getting their opinions will also help in making a final decision. In the end, parents are going to unconditionally love their baby no matter what diaper he or she is wearing. Loving parents cannot make any wrong decisions!
