Solar Energy is produced by the Sun which is a little over 100 times larger than Earth and almost 93,000,000 miles away from Earth and has a surface temperature estimated to be around 5,500 degrees Farenheit, it really puts things in perspective when you look at the big picture.
Solar Energy can be generated by using Solar Panels, Fans or Pumps and can then be stored for use until a later date. You can use it to supply power to individual appliances, such as , lamps, tv's, radios or coffee pots, or you may choose to go completely off the grid and supply power to your entire house.
There are kits availability so you can build your own Solar Panels for under $200.00 per panel or you can purchase complete kits of various Watt Ratings plus your power unit to plug your appliances into. Those of you who are all-electric should seriously look into powering your Electric Hot Water Heaters and Heat and Air Systems with Solar Power, these are the two most expensive culprits to operate in your home.
How do you know how many Watts you will need to power a device? Multiply amps x volts = watts, however, the starting load amps (SLA) are always greater than the running load amps (RLA) so if you do not have an amp-probe to measure the starting load amps and if it is not listed then just double the RLA and multiply by the voltage, it is always better to have too many watts than not enough.
Solar Energy is virtually an untapped market, but with our growing dependency and dwindling supplies of Fossil Fuel we are finally taking a closer look at Earths Natural Energy and most powerful Energy Source, the Sun. It is referred to as renewable energy because there is an endless supply. With Fossil Fuel we will always be at the mercy of the greedy, but with Solar Power we will no longer be dependent on anyone.
The other Benefits that we have not mentioned are; the 30% Federal Tax Credit, some States also have Incentive Programs, Increase your Property Values, Renewable Source of Energy, Cost Effective and is Environmentally Friendly. Not to mention that it will actually pay for it self in a few short years.
Having a Solar powered back-up generator for emergencies will be one of the best decisions you ever made. Gas or Diesel powered generators are fine except for one thing, they need fuel and if the power is out they cannot pump fuel. I am an Independent Insurance Adjuster, I work Hurricane's and I see this all the time, people are desperate to find a generator. I hope you will take a look at the Solar Industry and see what it has to offer you.
