Surplus Solar Panel

With ever rising electricity costs and a growing grassroots renewable energy movement, I see a lot of people looking for a surplus solar panel for their homes. The fact is there are still a lot of deals or even freebies to be had if you think outside the box. There are obviously some hard costs associated with a solar power installation but the more work you are willing to put in the less expensive it will be. In this article I will be discussing some of the best approaches to lower the cost of your home solar energy kit.

When I look around, I can see solar panels in use everywhere. Most often I’ll see them as part of a portable traffic sign displaying your current speed or on a construction site. Over time solar panels in these tough conditions tend to break or get damaged by cars and the company that owns them will just swap them out with a new one. What most people don’t know is that these damaged panels can be expensive to recycle as they can’t just be thrown away due to environmental issues.

The next time you see one of those signs, safely pull over, walk back to the sign and look for the sticker of the company that subcontracts the signs. Call the number and politely ask if they have any damaged panels you could take off their hands. Usually, they would be happy for you to come and pick it up. Solar panels are actually quite a simple technology… cracks can be sealed, leads can be soldered. Voila! Free solar panel!

Another good idea is to look for wholesale solar panel suppliers. When a manufacturer mass produces solar cells, many of the panels have small imperfections can’t be sold to companies. In these cases, they will try and sell them on E Bay or through a wholesale supplier. Usually they will have discounts on volume orders. Most of the time, these small imperfections don’t greatly affect the output of the cells.

Solar technology has come a long way in recent years and a lot of people who already have had panels on their houses for years are ready to upgrade to the newest and best converting panels. Perhaps you could place an ad in the classifieds or online offering to help someone with their upgrade for free in exchange for their old solar panels. It can be a lot of hard work up there on the roof and some may really appreciate the offer.

So, as you can see, there are a few avenues you can explore on your quest for a surplus solar panel. Repairing damaged panels, looking for wholesale suppliers, and helping a fellow solar enthusiast should get you off to a great start. Oh, and don’t forget about the many grants and rebates available to the green consumer through local and federal government programs so be sure to research that in your local area. I hope this article has helped you on your path to renewable energy. Good Luck!
