When I first started to lose weight, everyone told me to cut out the soda and drink more water. But I hated water, mostly because as a kid our water system was tied to a lake. When the lake 'turned over' the water smelled and tasted like fish for weeks. I detest fish. I developed an aversion to tap water because of this. When I finally buckled down to drink more water, I ended up having to do bottled water. This made the eco-geek in me cringe, because I was doing four bottles a day. After a while, you run out of ways to recycle them in your own house hold. Throwing away four bottles a day, or about thirty a week, give or take, was more than I could stand. I needed another way to do this whole water thing.
My roommate ran into the Water Bobble at a store, and came home talking about it. I immediately went online, looked at it, and ran the numbers. I will let you do your own math, but for me, the purchase of a Water Bobble was a sound idea. It cut out the needless single serve bottles of water, and provided me with a constant supply of filtered water, for a fraction of the cost.
I ordered one in lavender, with a replacement filter. I should point out that the first Bobble you order comes with a filter in it, so ordering your replacement filter at the time you purchase your first Bobble is completely up to you. I did it because I figured I could switch from the first filter to a replacement, and then order a second replacement, and not have to wait for the filter before I could use my Bobble again. After placing the order, I waited (not so patiently) for it to arrive. Shipping was thankfully fast, and I put it to work right away.
The Bobble filters the water as you drink it, so you filter only what you drink. Meaning when I get to the bottom of the bottle, I can dump the last inch of water into a plant without 'wasting' filtered water. Because mine is a the largest size they had, a 34 oz, I get about four of the 'recommended' servings of water per fill-up. I thought this was going to be hard to do, but I go through the bottle without really thinking about it, and then I have to go refill it. Usually every two bottles I end up dumping an inch of water into a plant when I go to refill.
Just the other day, my roommate and I were talking about the Bobble and the benefits of it. We have a pitcher filter system in the house. But the problems I have had with it in the past is that I have to wait for it to gravity feed the water through the filter into the whole pitcher, before I can pour a glass. By the time that happened, I had usually grabbed something else to drink.
Then, once the pitcher was filtered, we had to find somewhere to store it, either on the counter or in the fridge. This isn't always easy in our house. We've knocked it off the counter more than once, and generally, the fridge is too full to start with. The Water Bobble, on the other hand, filters as I drink, allowing me to fill the bottle, and then drink when I am thirsty. It's also the size of a water bottle, so I can set it on my desk, or carry it with me when I go for a walk. I certainly cannot carry a pitcher with me as I walk.
There are other added benefits to the Bobble. The bottle part itself if recyclable, so once it needs to be replaced you can recycle it like any other plastic bottle. This makes me feel good. The bottle itself is already made from 100% recycled PET plastic. The filters, when you are done with them, can be mailed back to the company to be recycled, so nothing in this Bobble seems to end up in the landfill. Comparing this to the store bought bottled water, a Water Bobble is a much more environmentally friendly choice. The eco-geek in me is very happy with this purchase.
