When you are feeling sad, what do you do? Do you perhaps turn on some music, call a friend, or go running? All of these are healthy, and they can work wonders on your mood. You might also consider one other way to cheer up the next time you are feeling down: baking. There are at least four reasons why baking can make you feel better.
First, by baking, you are keeping busy. You are not sitting around feeling sorry for yourself or thinking of other things that make you feel even worse. Instead, you are creating something. You are reading a recipe and mixing ingredients together. In addition to keeping busy, there are other reasons why baking is a good way to improve your mood.
A second reason why baking is a good idea when you are feeling down is because you will smell your food as it bakes. As the tasty aroma of banana bread or lasagna fills the air, you should begin to feel better. You can then get back to the activities that you love, such as reading a bestseller or writing an article for your blog.
Finally, when you stick a toothpick into the center of your baked good, and the toothpick comes out clean, you will know that your item has finished baking. You can then carefully remove it from the oven. Then, you will be holding in your hands an item that you created. That should make you feel good.
Of course, you do not have to wait until you are feeling down to bake something. You can bake anytime that you want to. You might make a pie to have for dessert after dinner one night, for example, or you might bake some chocolate chip cookies to have for a snack one afternoon.
When baking, it is important to take some precautions, however. It is probably best not to bake late at night, for example. At that time, you will likely be very tired. Therefore, you might accidentally leave the stove on, which could cause a fire. If you bake late at night, you will also be tempted to leave the dishes that you used for baking in the sink, which could draw roaches and ants.
If you bake in the morning, afternoon, or early evening, however, you should have the energy to finish your activity and then clean up your mess. That way, you can enjoy a good experience and some delicious food.
