Always Sad, Lonely And Depressed?

Don't despair if you feel this way, and don't allow yourself to feel powerless to change it. Every problem has a logical, workable solution. This is the attitude you must adopt in order to overcome negative feelings, and life's challenges in general. In this article I will provide you with strategies to overcome the feeling that you are always sad, lonely and depressed.

Depression and Sadness

Depression and sadness are obviously quite similar. However, if you feel that you are clinically depressed and you are experiencing suicidal thoughts, you must seek professional help. Do not feel reluctant to ask for help. All mature, successful people have the ability to recognize their limitations and then take the action to seek help for them. Depression is common, and you aren't any less of a person for feeling sad. This is a natural, normal part of life. Your struggles are nothing to be ashamed of, and the most resourceful thing you can do for yourself is learn to overcome them so you can strengthen your character.

In regards to sadness, there are some very effective activities that you can do that have been proven scientifically to decrease negative emotions and increase overall levels of happiness:

Exercise

That's right, engaging your body in physical activity has been found to be just as effective as anti-depressants. Just as effective! Not only does exercise boost the endorphins in your brain, which are the "happy" chemicals that block pain signals, but they are commonly known for giving people a euphoric high. In fact, they have been touted to have the same effect as powerful narcotics like opium and heroin. That's why you see people getting addicted to the gym, the aftermath feeling is literally like a drug.

Not only is the chemical process of exercise effective at combating depression, but the overall feeling you get from physical activity over a long period of time will boost your sense of confidence. You will automatically feel better about yourself, because you are taking action to improve your body. You will feel stronger, you will look better, and by making the effort to work out you are saying "I care about myself." Caring about yourself, and developing a sense of worth is one of the fastest ways pull yourself out of a struggle with depression.

Meditation

It's not a coincidence that Buddha looked happy and peaceful. He really was. Meditation has also been shown through studies to raise overall levels of happiness and positive feelings. When you mediate, you are able to pull yourself away from the whirlwind of life. A lot of the time, the things that cause us the most stress and worry are trivial matters. They really are not important in terms of the big picture. Meditation gives you the opportunity to look at your life from an outside, objective point of view. You gain clarity, and with clarity comes peace.

Loneliness

I had a lot of troubles with being alone, I used to avoid it at all costs. I had to go through a major change within myself to overcome my struggles with loneliness. In order succeed in dealing with this challenge, you have to address the root cause of loneliness. People do not like being alone, because they do not like their own company.

Even if you have a boatload of friends and a large family, there will always be times when you find yourself alone. It's o.k. to be alone, it doesn't mean you aren't a person of value. Don't see solitude as a bad thing. In fact, you need solitude to grow, to discover yourself.

Discovering your talents, passions, strengths and limitations will build your self-esteem. You will automatically start to like yourself. Liking yourself is your solution to never having a problem with being alone. You will no longer be dependent on other people for feelings of worthiness, and that is such a liberating experience.

I challenge you to embrace your solitude, rather than avoid it.

Here is my full video where I share my story about how I dealt with loneliness.

Give these ideas a try, and remember that life is a series of small successes. It is very rare that you will see instant results, but don't let the idea that it might take some time discourage you. Anything that is valuable will take time and effort. You are valuable, so give yourself that time and effort.
