Do You Suffer From More\'ism?

If you do - you are most likely not very happy with your life as it is now, nor what is was - or will be, because you always want MORE of something. Is it a material thing - or is it an emotional thing? For your unhappiness it doesn't matter. You will not be contented with what you have because your thoughts are hang up on what is causing you to search for what you think you are missing. What you have in your life already doesn't matter enough, because you do not give it enough thoughts, and thereby recognize and validate them.

Do you recognize any of these statements?

- I will be happy when my bills are paid.....

- I will be happy when my wife/husband changes.....

- I will be happy when my wife/husband is more attentive.....

- I will be happy when I lose weight.....

- I will be happy when I have a better job.....

- I will be happy when I have less stress in my life.....

- I will be happy when I have MORE money......or

just simply fill in the blanks:

*** I will be happy when ___________________________________.

Do you see that you have already decided "to be happy" has to wait until.......whatever it is has been accomplished? When you live your life this way, there are few chances that you will ever be happy, because there will always be something "outside of yourself" that you will be looking for in this world of materialism and emotional hype.

What good is it to achieve a goal and then feel it is not enough and start to look for something else?

What good is it to get what you always wanted and when you have it, you don't want it anymore?

It doesn't mean at all that there is something wrong with "more of something". What is wrong, is "the chasing" of it, and give it priority in your life. This way you are forgetting what you already have in your life, you take it for granted and forget to be grateful for it.

When was the last time you were grateful that you have the skills to work a computer? That you OWN a computer? That you hopefully have a job or other ways to make an income - even if it's not the job you "want"? Do you consider having electricity and water as something you should always take for granted? Did it ever come to your mind to be grateful that you can see, hear, smell and walk, talk, think, and travel on your own? Do you have a family yet? Are you grateful (enough) for those in your life? How about if you are at my age (62) and still can get out of bed on your own in the morning? ;-)

First you must get the awareness - and then decide if you WANT to be a happier person without more'ism. If yes, you want to change your attitude towards what you already have accomplished, and have of emotional support and material things. Make a list of ALL these things, and you are making yourself "a gratitude list"!

If you have a problem to get started, think of all people who are sick or handicapped one way or the other, of people who have recently lost one of their love ones. Think of people who have no shelter, not enough money to have a full stomach each day......If this is not enough, visit an entrance of a hospital emergency room....

Once your gratitude list is done, you print it out unless you write on paper. But KEEP it, and bring it out every day until you start to think about things you are grateful for. Then as you go along, you will ADD to the list. I promise that you will soon start to feel much better, and your attitude towards life will change. And when you start to change your attitude, you will realize what a waste it is to keep chasing what you used to do.

Remember: Happiness is an inside job. And it can only be done through changes from within. When was the last time you read about people with more money than they can count, was in a crisis of some sort that certainly didn't make them happy? "Money cannot buy you happiness", the saying goes for a reason. See some of the stories about wealthy but obviously unhappy people on my website

By looking inside ourselves, we will discover that the joy, love, power, and peace we are looking for are already there. It just needs to be identified and unlocked.

The secret to get rid of more'ism, is not to get what you think you want, but to be grateful for what you already have in your life. When you have an attitude of gratitude, you can almost say you have been cured from more’ism.

Great writing about an important subject Arne, I know people like that, I'm sure that I have been too, but guard against now, and reading your article adds a little more armor to my suit :) I love it when I take control of my own thoughts and I feel a lot more confident!

Thanks Matt, appreciate your comments and insight. I believe most of us have to go through it in order to get to the point where we are fortunately "saved by awareness". This enables us to change our values and as you say, take control of my own thoughts. And glad you benefited from my article, we can all need reminders as we go along ;-)

I believe this one was just for me Arne. I always been goal oriented. But when I after accomplishing one I felt empty or even depressed sometimes. Then I will come up with a new goal and get excited all over again. What I found out was I had become addict to the chase that you talked about. Today, because of my awareness, I can relax knowing that "The chase" is just an illusion.

Thanks Vernon for sharing. It's amazing how we almost "blindfolded" just keep going on our path without questioning whether it is right or not. But through an awareness, that will all change. ..And I believe that we all have to go through what we do, in order to get to where we are today ;-) Glad you had the necessary awareness, that's wonderful.
