Now that the monsoons are here, aren’t we all just waiting to run out the door and dance in the rain? It’s such a relief to be rid of that sweltering summer heat and just enjoy the pleasant coolness that the rains bring along with them. But hold on, before you go around prancing in the rain, have you made a checklist of “monsoon dos and don’ts”?
Worry not, as we have done the hard work for you! Here are some handy tips to help you enjoy the monsoons1 in a happy and healthy manner.
Fitness First!
The title sums it up! The rains usually bring about some unwanted guests such as Diarrhoea, Leptospirosis, Malaria, Dengue, Dysentery, and a whole lot more. You need to take good care of your health and eat healthy during monsoon. Consuming street food during the monsoons is like a sure shot way to get you out of your daily routine and into a hospital bed. That Pani-puri wala down the street may sure seem tempting at the time, but trust us when we say you do not want to know where that “pani” came from. Resist temptation at all costs!
The Monsoon Dress Code
You probably went on an all-out shopping frenzy just before the first showers. The question being, did you buy monsoon-appropriate gear or just the most chic skirts you could find? Trust us when we say this; get only clothing that can keep you comfortable in the rains. From footwear to clothes, the essentials are sandals or floaters that won’t hold water, clothes that dry super quickly, do away with accessories if rainwater irritates your skin and make-up is a definite NO (Unless you don’t mind looking like that chick from The Grudge after you get drenched!) Waterproof makeup works wonders here, you’re welcome!
Don’t Forget Caring For Your Skin
Many people suffer from hydrophobia or extreme fear of water. Some people cannot even stand the feeling of rain drops on their skin. That’s usually because our skin may be sensitive to rain water as more often than not, rains in major cities contain a whole range of chemicals in it. If you are sensitive to rain, try using appropriate moisturizers to keep your sensitive skin shielded from chemicals and well hydrated. After all, you don’t wish to get a bad case of rash or an acne breakout, do you?
Don’t Forget To Condition Those Tresses
Rapunzel may have overdone it just a wee bit, but caring for your hair is important, especially during the monsoons. Be it long and wavy or short and straight, your hair needs the right conditioning to keep it vibrant and healthy. Try and avoid getting soaked in the rains as far as possible. If you are used to wearing a windcheater in the rains, consider buying one that comes with a built-in hoodie to keep those lovely locks dry and well protected. Letting your hair loose is not the best option as it will get all frizzy during the first showers. The best way to go here would be to tie it into a classy and elegant bun. You can always let it back down once you’re back indoors.
Carry A Change Of Clothes
This would be most applicable to the working class people. You folks ought to stock a few clothes in your office cabinets that you can slip into incase you get all drenched in the pouring rain. Saving a pair of comfortable shoes at office for a rainy day helps too! Who likes so sit in office with soggy shoes! Why not keep a makeup kit and some accessories in there while you’re at it? This will definitely save you some embarrassment, especially if there’s a surprise client meeting.
We hope these tips help you to prepare for before the monsoon and enjoy a hassle-free season!
