Getting Refocused By Being A Beach Bum For A Day

I went to the beach today. It was nice just to lay on a blanket in the sand and listen to the waves roll in to the shore. The crashing waves and cool breeze made me feel sleepy. So I thought I better sit up and look around a bit.

I watched the surfer boys and the surfer boy wannabes trying to catch a wave. Mostly they weren’t having a lot of luck, but every once in a while they managed to get a short ride.

Family groups dotted the beach with their blankets, an umbrella or two and the various toys needed to play in the sand. The little ones would race to the water, only to run back shrieking because the water was cold and loud. They raced back and forth between the rushing water and the safety of the tide line. I thought it sure would be nice if I had some of that energy.

Then I heard the sound of a horn. Not your typical horn, a shofar, or rams horn. What the heck? On the beach, really? What was going on?

I watched the group of well-dressed people to try and figure out what was going on. Then it became obvious that someone was getting baptized today right there at the beach.

Before long three of the men went into the icy water. A few small waves later the man in the center went under. Right as he came up out of the water, a good-sized wave got all three of them and they all went under! But all was well and they walked out to cheers and applause from their friends.

There’s something about being in or near the water that calms my mind and soothes the frazzled edges of my life. I don’t know if you feel like that or not, but there is just such a sense of peace about it.

Being landlocked for many years in the Midwest I missed the ocean, but took solace in the beautiful lakes in our area. Any vacation time or long weekend we had, we spent near the water. Even if it was only a backyard pool!

We had a fountain in our backyard and I loved to sit outside on the deck and just listen to the water. Our front yard had a hill to it and my husband and daughters made me a stream that ran down into a small pond at the bottom. At night if we opened the windows the sound of the rushing water reminded me of the rivers in the mountains.

After spending several hours at the beach today, I feel so calm and refreshed. It’s great to feel focused and centered again. What do you do to get yourself back on track when life gets too crazy?

Wow Lacy, you really hit a spot here for me. I too love sitting and listening to the ocean, it does wonders for me and I miss it. I too have a fountain I can listen to in the back yard which of course reminds me of the ocean. Small world it is as I am land locked here in the Midwest.

several hours at the beach and a long walk where the water trickles in is very relaxing and can really generate a cleared mind and new ideas. I think I'll have one of these days soon. Good article

I have to have the water close. Ive spent my entire life with it surrounding me. I really dont focus on re-charging much (which has to be addressed) but I have a feeling that it comes naturally. Thanks for the read:)

Another great article Lacey. I get recharged by going for long walks. I go through what I want to write, and suddenly realize I've walked for 2 or 3 blocks and didn't remember seeing a thing. Recharging is so essential in this busy, busy world we live in..

It really is important Linda. I have a tendency to forget that sometimes. And I have to be drug kicking and screaming off to relax...lol
