Happiness Begins With You!

A universal trait of human beings is a quest for happiness. The definition of happiness and what it takes to achieve it is different for every person. In many cases, young people assume that money is the root of happiness. Money definitely makes it easier to obtain materials items, to travel the world or to buy the latest sports car. As people age, they begin to realize that happiness does not come from money.

As people mature through their adult years, they begin to learn how to be happy. True happiness comes to people who set goals, work hard to achieve those goals and finally achieve the rewards. These goals range from finding a good job, buying their first home, getting married and starting a family to traveling the world. But the goals could also include things like helping others, making an impact on the world, writing a book or protecting the environment.

To learn how to be happy, people need to set goals. Goals do not have to be unattainable. For some people, losing ten pounds can bring happiness. Buying a new dress in a smaller size than last year is a huge accomplishment for women who have struggled with their weight. For other people, winning the battle against a health condition may be their overarching goal.

If you want to know how to be happy, all you need to do is look at the people around you. Find out what makes them happy and see what they did to achieve their goals. Again, happiness is different for everyone. What makes your neighbor happy might not do much for you. The only way to work toward your own happiness is to discover what you want from life and start making a plan to get there.

For most people, small steps toward happiness are easier to make than huge leaps. The old adage, Rome wasn’t built in a day, definitely holds true where happiness is concerned. Happiness takes time and getting a plan in place is but the first small step. The thing about happiness is that it is contagious. If you walk into a room of genuinely happy people, it is almost contagious.

You can catch happiness! By surrounding yourself with positive and supportive people who understand the value of working for rewards, you will begin to develop your own inner happiness. You learn who you are, what defines you. This is the only way to really gain happiness within you.

Sure, being able to buy what you want when you want it will make you happier than if you could not. This is not all it takes to be happy. The quest for happiness is eternal, and no matter how happy you are, there will always be room for greater happiness and satisfaction with your life. As long as you realize that throughout your life, the things that define you will evolve and change, you already know how to be happy. All you need to do now if figure out what defines you today. Once you do, happiness will follow.
