I know that not everyone is a Star Trek Fan but I would venture to guess that somewhere in time you have seen at least one of the episodes or one of the many movies. My favorite has long been Star Trek: Insurrection. It’s not just a great story line but contains a Life’s Lesson that I believe we can all learn from….
Have you ever experienced a Perfect Moment in Time??
So have you? Have you experienced such a moment? A Moment when Time seemed to have almost stood still? And you wish that that moment could stay forever?
Seems impossible doesn’t it?
There is a scene later in the movie when Anij and Jean-Luc are sitting in the woods by a waterfall. She takes his hand…. and the waterfall seems to slow down…almost stop. She picks up a flower and blows the pollen off of it….and you can see the pollen all so slowly blowing in the air. There is a humming bird whose wings normally beat at over fifty times per second but now you can see each and every beat. Time has slowed….has almost stood still….and you can almost live in that Perfect Moment.
So have you ever experienced such a moment?
Let me tell you a story………..
We were at Walt Disney World (so many of my stories come from being at Disney---maybe the place really is Magic) having dinner at the French restaurant in Epcot. Kathy and I had begun a tradition to take our Grandchildren there when they turned five years old and Kaitlyn had turned five. So here we were. Great Grandma (the Grandkids call her G G Marie) was also with us because, as it turned out, she had never been----It was like having two kids at Disney.
We were eating there so we could experience IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth which is an award-winning show performed nightly at Epcot full of fireworks and laser light shows.
As the show was about to begin, Kaitlyn and I excused ourselves from the dinner table. I wanted to get her as close to the front of the crowd as I could so she could see. And we got pretty close but not right up front. As the show was just about to begin, Kaitlyn said something to me that was so sweet----“Grandpa, thanks for taking me to Disney”
And then the big show began. But I could tell that Kaitlyn was having trouble seeing over the few people in front of us. How many times had I lifted my sons James, Jeff and yes my darling daughter Jamie upon my shoulders so they could have a better view? So up she went.
But something was different. I know that Kaitlyn is thin as a rail. She could not weigh that much. So why did she feel so heavy? Had I really gotten that old? Was I that out of shape? Could I actually do this? It used to be no problem. When I last lifted Jamie on my shoulders to see this very show I don’t remember feeling the weight.
And then it happened.
The weight on my shoulders was gone---vanished. And the show….all the lights….all the lasers….all the fireworks were happening in slow motion. It was as if time had slowed down to a trickle. It was as if I could hold on to this moment forever.
It was then, that I realized that the weight on my shoulders was being held up from above….that Jamie was looking down from Heaven on Kaitlyn and I. That it was Jamie that was relieving the weight. And she was right there with us watching the show. And what a show it was. Just the three of us experiencing a Perfect Moment in Time.
Eventually the show and the moment ended but the memory can never be forgotten. No photograph or video can replace the image and feelings in my mind.
It was a Perfect Moment in Time.
So have you ever experienced such a moment?
Of course you have. I guarantee it. The challenge is to slow down just enough to see them. They are happening everyday to everyone. You simply have to look for them. Become a Treasure Hunter…an Indiana Jones…Lara Croft in Tomb Raiders… Benjamin Franklin Gates in National Treasure . Open your mind to the reality that Perfect Moments in Time are happening all around us.
All we have to do is…..open up our minds.
Pray for me. I’ll pray for you.
Jim
