Singing Harmony

Many people audition for a choir. It might be a choir in their school, church, or community. When preparing for their audition, they might spend hours looking through books of sheet music, trying to find the perfect song. The song has to be just right. If they choose the wrong song, they might not be asked to join the choir.

People join a choir for many reasons. Perhaps they are lonely and want to make friends. Perhaps they own a business, and they are looking for customers. Perhaps they are writers looking for new experiences to use in their writing. Whatever their reason for joining, most people who join a choir have one thing in common : a love of singing.

If you have ever auditioned for a choir, you know that most choirs typically have sections: soprano, second soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. Each individual section, by itself, often sounds odd. When all of the sections sing together, however, the sound is beautiful.

If you are a woman who is auditioning for a choir, and you are hoping to be put in the soprano section so that you can sing the melody, do not be disappointed if you get put in the second soprano or alto section. When you auditon, the director will put you in the section that best fits your voice. Many people want to sing the melody because the melody of a song is the "catchy" part, the part that everybody remembers, and the part that is often the easiest to learn. Singing harmony is not difficult. With practice, one can learn a harmony part the same way one would learn to sing any other part.

Harmony is important. A choir could sing only the melody, but that would be boring. The audience wants to hear the blending of the different parts as they work together. When all of the parts work together, they are cooperating. Cooperation is important for a choir. It is also important for other groups and for society in general.

When people can cooperate and get along, everybody is happy. People can live their lives and do what they need to do. By being happier, people can be healthier. When people are unhappy, it creates stress. Stress can cause conditions such as high blood pressure and heart problems.

Create some harmony in your life. Join a choir. Find a hobby. Reconnect with old friends. Your life will be better when you take action to improve it.
