Small Distractions Cost You Alot

It is really easy to get caught up in something you really do not care about. In fact it happens to a lot of people. Now if your one of those people cheer up one study says that people who are easily distracted may have more gray matter. Simply put you brain is bigger. Unfortunately in this case bigger may not be better. So today we are going to examine why small distractions can cost you.

If you are wondering I place myself firmly in the easily distracted group. Today as I was driving I noticed that I had a small flying insect on my wind shield. Immediately all my attention went to this one thing. I was distracted.

Fortunately for me it was early and not very many people were out. Actually no one was on the road with me. I wanted to get it off the wind shield, I thought about using my wipers but did not want to kill it. I happened to focus in on my driving for a minute only to realize that I was doing a horrible job of it. This little insect had me so distracted that I no longer cared about the bigger picture. I felt compelled to find a solution to this insect

This could have been a deadly mistake but it makes a great illustration to what happens to us in our lives. This happens in all areas of our lives. In business we sometimes see what is a small thing and allow it to become a big distraction in our lives. Maybe your new cards came out or a flyer went out but the font is wrong.

In a moment that little mistake becomes a small distraction that takes up the rest of your day. Every thing you thought you would or could accomplish is put on hold so you can find out who made the mistake. Then you take time to tell that person in depth how unhappy you are. Then demand to be compensated in some way. No matter what you get the time you lost can never be recovered.

Whether you're a one person business, a small company or a large corporate giant small distractions are costly. The higher up the chain they are the more they cost. I am not into business you say so why should I worry about a small distraction?

Have you ever come home to find something not done that you clearly stated you wanted done before you got in that evening? You were excited coming home you picked up a new game that you were sure the family would love. The minute you hit the door your blood pressure went up the game was forgotten and the kids were hollered at and made to clean up.

Its just a small distraction but it bothered you all through dinner. Finally when the house was all quiet and you could think again you remembered the game, laying on the table next to the door. One small distraction had cost you the family time you and every one else had so badly needed.

Take the time to apply this to every area of your life and see exactly what one small distraction is costing you.
