Venus Cow Online Journal Goes Live

As the holidays approach and the High Street braces itself for a big hit on trading figures it is clear the financial pressure on people is taking its toll adding additional pressure, worry and stress.

However a lifecoach and budget lifestyle expert from Leicester, Shirley Yanez, (55) says “It is the way we think that keeps us stuck in a constant cycle of aspiration and unhappiness not how much money we have.”

Shirley has experienced being rich and extreme poverty. She was once a self made millionaire before the stock market crash of 2001 after which she spent a short time in a homeless shelter. Following that she embarked on a journey of self analysis to see if by changing the way she thought she could influence her life path and happiness. Today she says she is the happiest, most attractive and successful she has ever been and delights in sharing how she has achieved this with others.

“The most common mistake people make when in search of happiness is believing money is the key and I used to be no different.” says Yanez, “However common sense tells us, if we genuinely believe this, then happiness will always elude us while ever we are cash strapped.”

Many would believe her new found success comes from earning loads of money once again when in fact the life coaching course Ms Yanez promotes is free and available online for anyone. She maintains her budget lifestyle for real which for her doesn’t translate to being poor, scrimping, penny pinching or any other negative connotation. It simply means living within her means and sharing what she has with others.

“When you spend less than you’ve got you are always rich.” says Shirley, the foundation of her ethos for happiness.

Shirley's personal mantra is to never allow a lack of money to stop her achieving her goal, something she demonstrated recently when working towards getting her website and lifecoaching course online.

“Changing the way you think is exactly that but I’m not saying it is easy to achieve. Many of our thought patterns, like bad habits, are unconscious, so it takes, desire first, then time and dedication to do. A little like learning to walk or talk again after an accident.” says Yanez.

From her work in the field lifecoaching the homeless Shirley was aware of precious little prescription drug free support, counselling, talking therapies available on the NHS, for anxiety, low mood, depression and she knew she could help if she was able to reach more people. Using a website (to share her experience and the experiences gleaned from coaching one to one) as a private and secure resource for anyone in a moment of crisis was the obvious answer.

Her objective was to produce a login capability for the user offering an on line journal for visitors to layout their goals, hopes, dreams and desires and then track their journey to achieving them. Without the technical expertise to achieve this on her own and as a social entrepreneur with no resources to have it produced commercially, she decided to approach her local University, De Montfort, Leicester.

Ms Yanez called Dr. Robert John, a professor at the school of computing and head of the department for Informatics, told him her story and explained what she was trying to achieve. He invited her to meet with other members of the faculty to discuss the project. During her research she discovered universities across the UK maintain a broader social commitment to enhance the community as a whole and pitched her idea as something that would fulfil this mandate. The faculty related to the high numbers of people (including their own student population) struggling to manage their emotions, life pressures and the dramatic impact of obesity and drug and alcohol misuse on mental state in general and allocated the necessary hours to build the site. The site is built on the "Joomla" platform, a robust CMS (content management system) with the widest community user support base worldwide and most importantly, free for anyone to download.

"The great thing about the Venus Cow project is I have proven, categorically you don't need money to be successful and happy. By refusing to allow a lack of money to stop me moving forward, thinking laterally to engage the talent of others and being brave enough to ask for help, together we have created something amazing and sustainable for anyone that actually works. Does that make me happy without money?" What do you think? " says Shirley.

Style Mum

I went to one of Shirley's free seminars. Of course I was sceptical at first, no one does anything for free right but she was unbelievable, uplifting, extremely funny, made so much sense and didn't try to sell me anything. Anyone who gets the chance to hear her should go. Thanks Shirley.
