An iPad cover review needs to look at the currently available covers and those that can be used with the new products. Each day more become available. All of the manufacturers of theses covers are in catch up mode trying to get their product designed and tested to give customers the best value that their products can provide. Each manufacturer seems to have identified certain characteristics of the marketplace that need to have an iPad 2 cover to fill the need. One manufacturer has selected crash proof, another portability and versatility. Some provide a very basic cover and add a vast array of killer graphics. Others have developed a basic book style and used renewable materials. All have their merits and positives. Lets look at a few.
If you are looking for graphics in a basic skin that gives you scratch protection and not much else the best iPad 2 covers are from Gelaskins. This is a scratch proof skin that attach to the front and back of your iPad 2 with 3M technology. You can customize your style with this cover. There are graphics available for just about anything you can dream up. And, if you have something that you have dreamed up and want a custom cover with your design, no problem this company will provide a cover with your design. An added feature is the wallpaper that replicates the design of the graphic on your iPad 2 cover on the screen.
The Cadillac of protection, Otterbox is clearly one of the highest rated iPad 2 covers that can be had if you want to protect from drops and rough handling. The 3 layer system covers the iPad 2 in a polycarbonate shell which is then surrounded by a silicon cover the screen is protected by a film to give it better protection although the iPad 2 glass seems to be quite impervious to scratches. The Otterbox Defender will keep your iPad 2 safe and secure against anything short of an Earthquake.
If portability and versatility are your choices for a cover, the ModulR product line is for you. This company has developed an attachment system with their cover that not only protects the iPad 2 but allows you to mate it up with their entire line of accessories. I don't know about you but I find one handed operation of my iPad 2 is a bit clunky. It would be nice to have a hand strap to hold the unit while operating it with the other. ModulR has this covered. A hand strap attaches to the back and holds securely for one handed operation. Several hospitals are providing their medical students with iPads when they start their program. These are used for look-ups of medication and quick reference for diagnostics. The students need to keep the iPads nearby but not always in their hands. ModulR has a shoulder strap that fills this need quite nicely. Need a stand, ModulR has one that attaches to provide viewing of landscape or portrait modes and can be flipped to provide a good typing surface. Use it in the kitchen? ModulR has a mount that attaches to a wall for hands free operation. You can even mount the ipad to a car headrest with their accessories. The accessories are usable with either iPad generation. The iPad 2 cover will be released in April and is fully compatible with all of the accessories from the first generation unit.
With the release of the IPad3 device, cover compatibility is an issue. The form factor has remained the same so all of the covers that are customized for the IPad2 should work for the new unit too.
I don't have an IPad yet but have been looking around recently. I like the sound of the ModuR product line you mention.
Very informative. I had no idea there were so many covers for the IPad because I don't have one. I suppose it makes sense since people are buying them for a great deal of money that they would want to keep them safe. My DH has an otter box for his iphone. Seems pretty effective. I think the over the shoulder type would be very nice for people on the go. I like the idea that students have them to look things up. Much easier than the laptop I'm using.
